HID on/off issue

Last night seemed I was missing some light and sho 'nuff, my drivers HID was not working. I have the complete pre-assembled light, not a retrofit kit, btw. I popped the hood this morning to do a lil' 'vestigatin' and it worked. I was looking right at it for a second and the bulb went out and immediately back on again.

I am thinking the ballast is bad, but anyone know for sure?

Cannot find any loose wires and have removed the light and given it the shimmy-shake and just kept on a workin'

'99~'04 HID Projector headlights

I am thinking it is the bulb filiment and when contact is made and light is on, it tends to stay on. Next time it fails, I will tap the light and see if it comes on. If so, I will pick up some bulbs. I remember a big selling point to these lights was the bulbs lasted VERY long. I wouldn't say 2 years is soo long, but maybe these weren't such a good idea...

.... get it? a "good idea" as in a light bulb over the head?

I also am thinking a bad ballast. Especially if it's consistently flickering now just out of the blue and you haven't touched the wiring.

I wasn't very clear above

I have only seen it flicker a single time and was just a single quick blink off/on again. I haven't messed with it since earlier today, but have an e-mail into Stangmods as to what Matt thinks.

BTW, I thought Stangmods was closing? Was it revived with huge sales or part of the stimulous package?

Try switching the drivers side bulb to the passengers side. See if the problem follows the bulb or stays w/ the ballast.

That is my next step, but the darn thing has been working lately

I am hoping to hear from Stangmods today and will likely get some replacement bulbs anyway as I will eventually need them reguardless. Nothing like throwing parts at something until it gets repaired.

With my HID's, my passanger headlight flickered once, and after i turned the lights off then on again, it started working fine again for a few days, then it started rapidly flickering and eventually stopped working completely. If it starts doing something like that, you probably have a bad ballast like I did.
