Painting Exhaust

I am one of those people who are the anti-chrome. I do not want any chrome or polished showing up on my car. My next target, already did the emblems, is the exhaust. I want to paint the exhaust from the mufflers to the tips. I want them black. I am looking at using VHT exhaust paint. That turns flat black from the heat after it bakes. My thing is I would like the tips to be gloss or satin black. Does anyone know how well high heat paint, the 500 degree stuff would hold up on the tips? Or does anyone have recommendations. I have spoken to powdercoaters already and they tell me powdercoating will not hold up on the area near the muffler, so that is out. Ceramic coating is $20 a foot, so that is last resort.

Discuss.

It may be retarded, but atleast I can read. Obviously you can not. I am not painting my midpipe. I am painting my exhaust from the mufflers to the tips. On a IRS car if you are behind it you can see all of that. Even on GT you can see the tips.

Thank you for yor opinion though. I hold it high, damn near on a pedestal.

OK, so that time I meant to be an ass.

couple years ago I used a paint from DEI that was some sort of engine enamel with ceramic in it on my motorcycles exhaust. worked pretty good. I used Gloss black. I think Duplicolor is the other rattle can with ceramic I have used before. again with good results. might look into it. I think the duplicolor is like maybe 7 bucks a can and autozone, pep boys, kragen... you get the picture. even if it dosnt last as long as you would like, it is a starting point before you go the fullon ceramic coated/jet hot route where you send it out to be done.

I'm with you on punching chrome in the face. I'm curious to know how this turns out. I'm looking at possibly going the same route.

I have a friend that did something similar. He used rustoluem, then again hes black.....So that may explain his idea behind the whole project. If you do such a thing do it right. Sanding/grinding to the correct grit, high temp etch + high temp color coat etc.

Hmmm....Seeing as how I have a white car with black accents (bullitt rims), I think i wouldn't mind doing black pipes since with IRS the pipes are so visible

I need to go check out the Duplicolor. I am going to try to find the highest heat rating crap I can.

I want to even get rid of the brushed lips on my wheels and get them completely black. BTW, your car is beyond sex.

I don't mind constructive criticism, but ignorant statements just kinda irk me.

LOL. I plan on removing the exhuast, cleaning it completely, sanding it, and even possibly vapor bead blasting it.
