Yes, they fluids are the same specs.

I recently changed all my fluids over, and filled with the 3L of Pens. Synchromesh. No noticeable change on the 1-2 shift at first, all others were a little smoother. After about 200 miles though, all shifts are easy as butter, and it doesn't feel like there's multiple notches when I'm going from 1-2.

I've got that same notchiness going on. I changed my fluid to the P. Synchromesh about a year ago, and noticed better shifting right away, and over time.

However it's still a bit notchy/grindy when cold. I've heard that while Penzoil meets the specs. it's not 100% the same fluid (whether its the stock oil used, or friction modifier that's different). I also 'hear' that the GM stuff shifts better while the fluid is still cold.

When we changed out mine, the guy helping me just dumped my fresh fluid into a pump that arleady had some other brand trans fluid it in. So I believe I got a 'mix' of synchromesh, and something else.

Doing the oil in a day or so, and thought I would go ahead and swap the oil out to the GM stuff, just to see if there is any difference.

Holy fucking run-on sentences, danny-boy. Ya know, they invented punctuations for a reason!

This is the correct fluid, right?

Pennzoil/1 qt. synchromesh manual transmission fluid (3501) | Transmission Fluid | AutoZone.com

I'm currently running Amsoil ATF but I'm going to give this a try based off of what someone claims Tremec says. If Tremec really didn't say that please tell me before I dump out some expensive Amsoil ATF...

Using Mobile 1 with fill level 3/4" below----life is good again

P.S. Became suspicious of the Royal Purple gear fluid in the rear after seeing the tranny fluid. Yup, 400 miles and the diff fluid was burnt also. Royal Purple----never again for me.

I ran RP in my trans for 6k miles or so and its was flawless. Got some emails from RP as well assuring me the fluid wont harm the trans. You can see the emails posted a few pages back.

I dont see how you could burn fluid up let alone in 400 miles. RP is pretty quality stuff. there's just the dabate whether it eats internal parts or not.

Can't answer that. I can only tell what I found in mine and yes, it was only 400 miles.
I only put about a thousand miles a year on it.

Wow, I am really confused now. I called tremec and asked for the specific fluid to use in the tr 3650 and the tech said dexron III or mobil one ATF. I then told him I had heard alot of good things from pennz synchromesh and GM synchromesh and he replied that those synchromesh fluids are only recommended on their aftermarket transmissions such as the tko and not the 3650 ... Oh and he Also said the correct capacity is 6.3 pints which is about 3.17 3.25 quarts ... So what truly is the right fluid pennz synchromesh or what the tech specified...

Wow!
I put my 3qts in and then put more in. I stopped around .2 of the 4th qt, but I felt like there just wasn't any in there. Couldn't feel it with my finger thru the fill hole so I put the 4th qt in thinking what the hell it can't hurt. WRONG
I've been wondering why it still was a PITA to shift when rev'n it up and fighting me on down shifts sometimes.

Think I need to fix that problem before it becomes a $$$$ problem.
Thanks

Originally you would fill it til it was just at the hole and you could feel it. the revised recommendation is to use 3.2qts. I think it was 3.7 before, either way its a good bit less and you wont feel it.

Syncromesh manual tranny fluid?

Ok so I've been reading over this link and I just did my tranny this spring. I added the Mercon or whatever auto tranny fluid. Don't remember what it was auto tranny fluid I think it was mobile synthetic...

Anyway I've been reading here about Penzoil Syncromesh here. I go to Autozone and check their website and I see Penzoil Syncromesh manual tranny fluid. Is this what I need?

I'm doing my daughters 99 Cobra this week and thinking about redoing mine since I did add too much before really reading these threads. My 03 GT is a manual T3650 and I'm assuming that the 99 Cobra is the same.

Her carfax shows it was changed at valvoline last year, but it shifts for shit!!!!
Trying to get it in gear when you rev it up is like smashing the shifter against a wall until the rpm slows down. I think the clutch also needs adjustment, but Valvoline instant oil changes "tranny fluid" change also has me worried.

Anyway are we talking the Penzoil Syncromesh manual tranny fluid?

So looks like I need to do this with mine. Of those of you who swapped over to Penzoil. Any problems or are things still good?

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to decide if I want to do Penzoil or the GM Synchromesh (can get it for $10.50 per quart).
