What do I need to cover for cleaning the engine bay?

Well, as you can see in the picture below the previous owner took no time cleaning the engine bay. So Before I do it myself I am needing some advice on what to cover with a trash bag or whatever would work the best before I ruin my electrical system. Also what's your guys favorite engine degreaser.

I plan on following steps somewhat like theses:
How to Detail an Engine Bay | eHow.com

Maybe take my photo and paint over it to point out the spots would help out a alot

just make sure the filter stays clear of the water, an spray down. the wire harnesses are suppost to be water tight, so just pray and go. i personally spray down with simple green, let soak a little, and spray clean.

Be sure not to blast it either. like the SWEET said, soak it in simple green, let sit about 10-15 minutes and spray off with low pressure water. From the looks of it your going to need do do some scrubbing. I use a stiff bristle paint brush to get the crannies.

Same here... I use Simple Green, let it soak, then I use the "Shower" thing on the nozzle. I never cover anything. I do it about once a year.

Just take gasoline, and pour it all over the engine, and throw a match on it. Cleans shit up REALLLL good.

I just pop the hood at the car wash and use the low pressure spot free...still pretty hard... But less water...

another tip I heard somewhere else is when you spray it with the water make sure the motor is running....if water is getting somewhere that its not supposed to be you'll know it real fast and stop
