lol i already cut them im just not sure as to if one coil cut off will be enough. oh yeah and no isos. yeah i've never heard anything bad either. the way i see it, stock springs will launch better than lowering springs plus i can make them as low as i want.

Kinda off topic but are stock spring rates linear or progressive? Meaning if you cut the spring do you change the spring rate (progressive) or does the spring rate stay the same (linear)?

And trueblue make sure you bend the end that you cut to match the stock spring, otherwise there'll be MUCH less of the spring contacting the surface and that isn't good. I think cutting one coil off and bending it to match stock gives you a good ride height, but ppl will have to post pics I guess.

is as follows...

Never cut springs. It changes their design and what they specifically were designed to do.

You'll get people who say it's perfectly fine. Think logically. Does it seem perfectly fine? No; hence why there is an aftermarket. If cutting springs was the correct way to do it, then their wouldn't be a need for companies like H&R, Eibach who "Re-engineer" the spring to lower the car properly.

But that's

lefty i completely agree that it's not as proper as buying aftermarket springs, but no lowering spring will launch as good as a cut stock spring, so i've heard. and what can i use to bend the bottom to have it flat? that seems like itd be awfully hard to bend.

i've got FRPP C springs. i cut a 1/2 col out of the front and 3/4 off the back. no problems at all. if my thinking is correct, i believe a shorter spring will have a stiffer spring rate ? i also run KYB GR2's all the way around. car dieves good. i can post pics then. did the same thing with an escort i had. worked with no problems on that.

You can't beat an aftermarket spring that is specifically designed for launching

I'm going with cut springs temporarily until I upgrade to coil-overs + bilsteins

After moving my battery to the trunk and removing the A/C, my car sat way too high in the front (from taking weight off the front), so I cut 5/8ths of a coil off the front springs. It works very well I might add for the street and strip. I looked at getting the FRPP springs but I didn't want to go to a higher rate spring.

I've heard that 1.5" off of your stock spring is equal to .5" lower. but don't quote that.

. Ill agree with lefty here and what he said about cutting springs changing the design and what theyre meant to do, hes 100% correct but at the same time I dont agree with those people that say "omg omg omg cutting your springs is so horrible!!!". Plenty of people have cut them with good results. It seems like the only ones that say its ooooohhhhhhhhhh so bad to do etc are the people that think they have to be technically correct. If I were in your position sure id go ahead and cut them. The only thing id recommend is to cut them a little at a time, and as someone (I think baker) said dont try to heat them. Better to take off too little than too much. Hope things go well.

i agree 100% no need to cut the springs, but thats just my 2 cent
2 and 2 makes 4 so thats just 4 out of a 100 haha!

Sounds like a good idea. Let us know how things go. Worst comes to worst and you mess them up let me know. Ive got some factory springs laying around that I pulled off at around 65k miles, car was purchased with brand new 8 miles on it, never driven in salt etc so no worries about corrosion. Id be willing to give them up for next to nothing (shipping + a few bucks). Not trying to be mr salesman, just throwing that out there in case you do run into some problems.

hey AMJ this sounds like a ok idea at least until i can get some better springs how much do you think is the max to cut before you ruin the spring... not that it want to hit the max.... also if i wanted to lower the car at least 1.5 to 2 inches in the front and back how much would you have to cut

Unless I'm mistaken, springs used for launching at the drag actually raise your car higher...

Either that or it just BARELY lowers your car.
