Heating Springs?

has anyone done this?
Is it good for the springs, hell is it even safe.... Some guy at a speed shop said he did it instead of buying new springs.

NO!!!!!!!!!! dont do it!!!!
Heating weakens the springs causing the springs to brake or warp or soften over time.
Cut em instead if you dont want to spend the moneys to do it right.lol
dont use a cutting torch either ha ha. Heats the springs

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

YOU WILL KILL THE REBOUND INTEGRITY BY DOING THIS. YOU CAN GET LOWERING SPRINGS FOR $100 FROM EBAY.

Cutting in fine and does very little to the spring, but heating the spring totally ruins it.

DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!!

Go to the import forums and read their posts on the subjects and you will also hear NO all over the place.

Buy drop springs or coilovers. Don't be cheep you will F up your suspension!

cutting springs isn't good either. just spend some money and get lowering springs, or if you can, coilovers, your mustang will seriously benefit from this. everybody wants to make their mustang faster, but it's already fast, make it handle.

you contradicted yourself.......

Only buy name brand springs from ebay.. (steeda, BBK Eibach fordracing ect) you get what you pay for. Spending $100 on new or used lowering springs from some place in japan is just as bad as heating them in my book. Same thing goes for any car mod on ebay.

I would never step foot in that "speed shop" again. That guy must have taken a life insurance policy out on you. People have done it and people do still heat springs but it is not safe at all. The heat ruins the spring and causes fatigue.

In general separate S/S and drop springs provide much better balance and weight ration then coilovers. Check FIA GT setups and you will see my point.

And cutting springs does very little to the rebound. Trust me, my buddie is a master tach and 10s 5.0 strip guy and had no problem when i brought up the topic.

Been running cut fronts (eibachs) for a year and zero difference in feel.

Your call and your discression.

No torches on springs. Cut them with a cut off wheel if you do it. Make sure you do it right too. Its fine if you know what you are doing.
