Are you referring to the mufflers or the cats?
I think removing either one would give you a bit more sound and power, though removing the cats would make the biggest difference.

If you don't have emissions, but an O/R midpipe. If you have to pass emissions get a catted midpipe, they should be high flow cats. It'll make a hell of a difference in sound, a little bit of power. The mid-pipe is the biggest choking point of the stock mustang exhaust.

This is 100% true. I never realized how badly my exhaust was held back by the stock mid pipe. Bolting on the H-pipe turned it into my favorite mod.

Oh, DCook, I think you meant "buy," not "but."

If your gonna remove the rear cats, you may as well look into a set of high flow cats and replace all 4.

I wanna run an aftermarket mid pipe but being in Cali and having the smog nazis enforcing all these rules it might be hard to do. I was thinking of going with the MRT catted h but there pretty damn expensive.

u can get a catless h-pipe for like $150 and then when emissions come up, swap ur stock pipe with cats back on. its like a 20 minute ordeal...

Only problem i'd have with that is the random road side emissions tests California has. I'd be fucked if i was pulled to go in there. And i've seen it happen in my city, a route i take to work is just one of the streets they use to do these tests. It's ridiculous

I just had that done to my car, they removed all 4 cats, and welded 2 dummy cats on straight pipes, all this done on the stock h pipe.
Heres a few follow ups:
a) The MIL lit up 2 weeks after the mod.
b) It got louder about 20x more, and since i use SLP LM1.. well it gets pretty crazy.
c) You can smell exhaust fumes alot more.
I live down south Texas, Rio Grande Valley to me exact, where 80% of teenagers have either modded camaro's firebirds or mustangs lol.. oh or pickups.
Cops don't really care about those mods.

I'm down in south texas as well by corpus christi...I'm catless with cherry bomb's on the stang and my old K5 blazer is totaly straightpipe :-) so fuck the cops...lol but if u have emission nazi's like in cale ur best bet is a hi flow catted H cause when you remove those 2 cat's you may not be able to pass then your totaly ef'd in the ay bro... That would suck ass...

IMO i would not start hacking your stock mid pipe and piecing in other parts. Just buy a o/r or a high flow cat mid pipe. It can get kinda.."ghetto" hacking parts.

id say screw the cops and get the o/r pipe and keep the stock pipe for emissions. if they give you any grief about it and have to go to court just switch it out and problem solved oh but dont they have that new law in cali now that your not allowed to use any aftermarket on your car? god cali is such a shit state for cars
