looking for deals man, i dont have the big bucks like some people here. i trip out when i see people spend $1k on headers when i see them all the time here in dallas for around $200 (that's how much i spent for mine).
i know a lot of people are going to pull the BS flag on this but i spent $200 TOTAL for my 4:10's WITH installation! under the table job w/ a FORD tech at one of the dealerships here in Dallas. |

Heads, cams, and forced induction (supercharger, turbocharger or nitrous) are not considered bolt-ons.
There will be a lot of disagreement with me and thats OK but the only bolt on I regret getting is long-tube headers. I saw no gain, neither mid-range nor peak, on the dyno.

None at all. The car was first tuned on a Mustang Dyno and turned 385/373. But it was running a little rich mid-range and a little lean at 6000 rpm because it had maxed out the MAF. A few months later I bought a MAFia at a shop closer to home and, since the car had to be tuned anyway, I bought long-tube headers and a catted x-pipe. The car was then put on a Dynojet. The first pull without any tuning changes was 385/367 and the curves were almost identical. After the AF ratio was adjusted the peak number dropped to 370/377 but I picked up 10-15 rwhp mid-range. This mid-range gain was not from the LTs. It was because we eliminted the rich AF mixture. Boost is supposed to drop when LTs are put on. I was running at 8.9 lbs before and 8.9 lbs after. No change at all so something is still restricting the exhaust.
I saw the last part of a show on Horsepower TV. They were testing shorties and long-tube headers on an engine dyno under climate controlled conditions. The shorties posted a 7 bhp gain (maybe 5-6 rwhp). After testing the long-tubes they just quickly said that there was no difference maybe a little torque mid-range and then cut to commercial. Most people do multiple changes to their cars such as headers, off-road mid-pipe and a new tune all at once. Then they attribute the gain to the long-tubes. I read a post once that said LTs gave them 60 rwhp on a '03 Cobra. In a later post they said they had changed a pulley on the supercharger and gave it a more agressive tune. Obviously it wasn't the LTs that gave them the gain. I have come to believe that it is the off-road mid-pipe that gives you the gains and that running LTs through cats is a complete waste of money. I'm also not the only one that has seen little or no gains on a dyno from long-tube headers. Nanaki on another forum was completely disappointed with his results. I saw a thread once about a n/a car that posted very little gain. Most of the respondants told the OP that the results are much better for supercharged cars. It was interesting that most of the respondants didn't even have LTs on their cars and many that did were using seat of the pants data to tell them they got great gains. There were some, like me, who had done before and after dyno with little else changed. Even on supercharged cars, like mine, the gain was small.

here's my experience w/ my Longtubes.
my buddy has same mods but has shorty headers (when i had stock maifolds) and he'd beat me by fender. i installed my longtubes and then when we'd raced i'd beat him by 3/4 of a car. just 2 weeks ago he ditched the shorty's and went longtubes and tubular k-member and he beats me now by a little over a car now ![]() maybe EagleGT didnt see any HP numbers on the dyno but in real world situations they do make a diffrence

Well, I agree with Eagle- I've read nothing incredible about LTs.
I have read, however, that headers, combined with a cam, are the better gain because of exhaust scavenging close to the valve. But back to the thread. Sorry! |

well technically we r on topic... cuz headers would fall nder the catagory of 'bolt ons' and from im reading, not such a great bolt on at that haha

Yeah, but from what I understand, to get the most out of headers, you should have a lopier cam.
I'm gonna patent that word. "Lopier." Fucking win. |
