i was the original owner of my 96 and i DID get in a bad wreck at like 50,000, which half of the engine was replaced.. but it lasted until i assume 200k.. i say assume because the odometer stopped turning at 140k, lol.. so then i bought a new cluster and reset it to zero it finally blew a head gasket like almost a year after that though.

the 99 i have now i bought with 180k, it drove alright til the oil filter freakin fell off goind down the highway.. now its been sitting in my driveway waiting for me to change the rod bearings.. took the clutch out and amazingly it was still good too! original clutch at that! still had all the from factory shiz on it.. durable ass cars, i tell ya that

Never owned a Taurus but i owned a 00 Contour Sport until i got my GT and that car was a tank. Redlined it several times a day and im general just drove the shit out of it, cars still running strong. My dad drives it now and still running like the day it came off the lot.

That is because you haven't gotten used to the power yet. I've been running at 370 rwhp for two years which is a very good power level for a daily driver. My motor should last to approximately 200,000 miles at that power level. Yet I want more. I want to try a 10 lb pulley and o/r pipes. And I keep thinking that maybe it will hold up to 12 lbs.

The problem is that after you sink $10,000+ onto a car you start becoming relunctant to sink another $10,000 into it. That's approximately what it would take to forge the short block, upgrade the lower intake, port & polish the heads, add supercharger cams & springs, and totally upgrade the fuel system. Oh, I forgot to mention replacing parts already upgraded like 42 lb injectors to 60 lb. If I want to push further then I can and an addition $1400 to upgrade to a D-1SC.

So, unless we have the discipline to resist, we push the stock motor to its limits lying every minute to ourselves telling ourselves that its safe. When it breaks then we either give up entirely or manage the addition upgrades. Our worse yet, pay thousands to get back where we were.

The problem is that you will get used to the power and want more.
