Thanks for posting that acmillr I knew that I READ my owners manuel correctly. And if my memory serves me right the 96-98 manuels also said 6 quarts for the 4.6 correct?

Not sure, but I doubt the 96-98 cars read 6 quarts. However, anything is possible.

Yeah cant remember exactly that was awhile ago but i have always put 6 quarts in my mod motors.

when i worked at a ford dealer i used to change my oil there and the manuals they had for my car all said 5 but ac put up some good info. ill start runnin 6.

i just did my oil change like 30min ago and the full mark was at 5qts

I ALWAYS run 6 quarts with no issues. Even if you have the 01 or older like me. The only difference is we have the old dipstick and our owners manual is printed to reflect that dispstick. Use 6 quarts and save yourself the trouble down the road

I always ran 5 quarts, the recommended limit on a 2000 GT, until I understood the oil starvation problem tha ACMillr mentions. It is my understanding that the only thing Ford changed is the mark on the dipstick when it changed the recommendation to 6 quarts. Since then I have been running 6 quarts.

6 on late 01-04 models...99-early 01 run 5.... but id use 6 if i were you
