k member question
Have longtubes on car and just took out trans to replace clutch. What a nightmare. Had to remove subframe. Want to replace with tubular kmember. Would like info on everything I would need. And also is it really worth it. I was also thinking of getting Shorty headers instead or is that stupid to do

If your replacing the K-member, You might as well stay with LT's. Shorties are for wusses (so old school).
Depending on the K-member you will need new A arms and Coil over. $1400 for complete kit from MM. Or you can find a QA1 or whoever it is that doesn't make you swap your A arms and keep your stock style springs. The result is you lose about 20-30 lbs off the front of the car and a HUGE amount of space. The stock K member is a piece of SHIT sheet metal monstrosity. To do the swap you suspend the engine with a lift of some sort and drop out the k-member. This is also the easiest way to swap out your LT's.

Like ModMustang said, there's a couple different ways you can go. UPR has a Kmember kit with A-arms and coilovers for $699 + shipping. I had one on my 03 GT with no issues.
It's a lot lighter and easier to maneuver and if you race at all, you'll notice a difference.

does the UPR kit come with bushings and stuff? or is there a bunch of other stuff you need for that $699 kit to work

take that back, it is only $461
I know 3 people that run QA1 on the road course and have nothing but good things to say. The weight redudtion alone is worth the $500

I have the kit on order. Add that to the Aluminum 3V I am swaping in will shed at least 150 lbs.

Anything to take weight off the strut towers. Well, for road racing anyways. The towers are a week design and dont support the weight of the front of the car

Any issues that you guys have with any of these kmembers?
Noises or knocking or fitment issues? What extra stuff do you need even with the qa1 total kit? Cant imagine it being this easy because its always something. Just want to try to make sure I have everything is there when i do the job... Thanx |

I have a QA1 , the ONLY thing I didn't car for was how far the wheels stock out with the stock A-arms and spring. Went to coil overs and shorter tubular A-arms (fox body) and now they're too tucked in, too the point where they rub in full lock turns.

struts and CC plates is all you will need if you get the full kit. I helped my buddy install his and it was easy and everything fit perfect. It took a long ass time but no problems with instal or mechanical.

CC plates are a requirement to get anywhere near good alignment with a tubular K member.
Keep in mind that using camber bolts to get it "close" on a road race car is just stupid. Plus the added strength.
