well considering i'm taking out the rear seats and adding most likely one 10 inch sub, box, and amp, it will be pretty close to when i had the seats in, maybe a little more. and more direct weight in the back will help with traction!

I can almost guarantee you that the subs will not weigh even close to the amount that the rear seat did. Depending on how you build the RSD and I bet you'll be lighter overall in the back end.

What does the rear seat weigh? They don't seem to weigh much of shit in a vert, and I know the last coupe I did was pretty damn light as well.

Just don't even get sub(s). Weighs your car down, and in a few years you'll end up taking them out. If you really feel the need for a sub, get a 10, NOT a 12. Mustangs are much too small for a 12. I had a Kicker l5 solobaric 12" sub in my trunk(nearly impossible to fit), and it was just too much, took it out about 6 months ago, sold it for money for more go fast parts.. Never looked back.

Do a seat delete though! And the car looks nice my friend!

I actually have to disagree with you for once. Taking out the rear seats, with brackets and seat belts nets about 50-60 lbs MAX. The rear seat delete if made from MDF will probably weigh about 20lbs if covered in carpet base case scenario. On top of the 2 or 4 gauge wiring needed to run the sub, plus the amp and the sub itself... That's going to be AT LEAST 50-60lbs. Hell, my 12" l5 I had weighed 50 lbs by itself, not including the amp, capacitor and wiring.

Yeah, depending on how much the RSD weight and what you make it out of it might be the same or less. I guess I shouldn't have said it in such a broad way.

Let's put it this way. My RSD and 2 10" subs that I put in weigh less than the rear seat and brackets that I took out

I would have to agree with going custom on this one and deflty make sure your turn the speaker side upside so back of speaker or the magnet is facing into cabin.

I had a custom box made to fit in the back of my trunk with two 10" subs. Sounds fantastic. They are bottom firing. I wouldnt expose them in the RSD.

For the RSD I used big sheets of aluminum and it's super light. I wraped my carpet a good 4" over all the edges so that the carpet would be a "rattle barrier" when I put it in. I also attached some 2x2 wooden brace legs in strategic areas so that someone could sit on it if absolutely necessary. Those sheets of aluminum are pretty spendy but I get the hookup.

MDF is probably going to be your best bet. Particle board will be lighter (it's less dense) but not as strong. I guess you might be able to use particle board and brace the bottom of it. Why do you need it to be that strong?

You're going to want to use MDF for the box. Hands down the best option.

i'll probably buy a box. i don't need the rsd to be that strong, but someone might need to sit on it one day just in case.

Be careful dont make the box too light.. I have a 10in w7 in mine now and you have to build the box rite and brace it rite.. Its a heavy sub but damn do they sound great.. Heres mine its nothing special i was gonna do a fg enclosure but i wanted it to be easier to take out for when i go to the track. But its a built to spec slot ported enclosure that is braced properly and sounds awesome..

JL makes great subs IMO, its all I have ever really bought sub wise. I have 2 JL W3 12inch and they are great, I may upgrade to W6's tho. I have heard a 10inch JL W7 on my old car, and it blew my 2 Type R's out of the water, been a JL fan ever since lol
