just a warning for you guys

Changing front wheel bearings suck. Everything is ok until you have to get that cover off to get to that nut. I don't know how ford expected anyone to get that off but I had to tear mine to pieces with needle nose pliers until it popped out.

I tried getting under it from the side and couldn't seem to get anywhere doing that. Found a hole in the very middle and started pulling from there until I got it. It took entirely way too much work.

I'm going to have to replace my front hub soon (have the part ordered). How hard of a time did you have getting the axle nut off? Air tools required or did u get it off with hand tools?

Also how do you know for sure which one needs replaced. Sometimes it sounds like passenger side but other times it sounds like drivers side. Is their any way other than sound to tell which one needs replaced? It gets louder when I turn right

I work at a dealership so air tools are handy.. however a 1/2" breaker bar will do the trick. Quick way to check for hub bearings is to slightly swerve left to right while driving. When you go one direction, you load the other side, if the noise becomes louder youve found it.

I read somewhere that its a 36mm nut, a 1 3/8inch socket worked fine, the rest of what you need are tools required to take your brakes off. I think you need 12 and 16mm sockets and whatever you want to use to compress your calipers when you go to put shit together. The nut was on tight, but nothing I wasn't able to take care of, I was mostly worried about getting it on tight enough. Biggest problem I had was with the little dust cover thingy, id like to see how those normally come out.

did you get the nut off with the car on a jack, or could you get it loosened up with car on the ground through the wheel?

I got it off with it up on a jack, that nut is what holds everything on, cant really take all of that off with the car on the ground.

The nut won't spin like trying to get the lug nuts off with the car up, so you don't have to leave it on the ground. Its like 240 ft lb or something like that. He got lucky if it was that easy. My hub came off fine, but the inner race came out of the hub and was frozen to the axle. I had to grind two grooves into the race and use a 2 jaw puller to get it off. Although, my dust cap did come right off with no problem. I also did not have to compress my brakes because the same rotor went right back on so the brakes were separated enough.

Anything you do on any car can give you problems to make it suck. Not everything goes smoothly everytime. I wish you could just replace the bearings, it would be alot cheaper.

Well changing it wasn't so bad, if you have the tools i'd say do it yourself. Not sure how much it would cost to pay someone else to do it but it's probablytoo much.

+1, Much easier with the complete hub assembly. But the cost is much more.

I can say the other day i did front brake pads on a 01 Ford Turaus and it was by far the easiest brake job i have ever done im willing to bet money i had no more then 5 mins of labor on either side of the car once the car was jacked up with the wheels off.But the Rear Drum brakes were an completly different story and took almost the rest of the afternoon lol
