spec clutch?

narrowed it down to a spec clutch, now i nd to know stage 2 or 2+ im only going to be at 400 to 430hp with kenne bell, stage 2 is rated over 500hp but just wondering if it will last going to drag strip alot?also in future i will be at 500hp.

i also plan on resurfacing flywheel to save cash but will this cause premature failure of clutch?

as for your flywheel it should be fine as long as you clean it with brake cleaner or carb cleaner when you go to mount up the clutch

+1 on their tobs sucking ass.. mine squeals now.

They're not too bad, but i think for the clutch effort, theres a helluva lot easier to drive clutches than the stiff ass stage 1

mine doesnt chatter but i have a stage 1. The pedal effort is a little more then stock but the stock clutch is a mushy crappy one so what can you expect

If your on the stock tranny I wouldn't get more than a Stage 2. I have seen people run Stage 1 clutches with 420rwhp and been fine. If you are going to the track with sticky tires, you'll want your clutch to be weaker than your tranny, otherwise when you hook up real hard you'll blow your tranny.

from experience spec clutches are garbage, but there are ppl that have zero problems. I am one of many that have had problems. spend the extra cash and get a nicer clutch. you wont be sorry.

I have a spec III and would do a centerforce next, had them in all my old 5.0's and they performed flawlessly (the dual friction models) i also always ran the centerforce supplied TOB's back in those days with no problems. My spec was chattery until their wonderful tob failed almost immediately and with the ford racing tob, it doesn't chatter at all. As for cleaning your flywheel up w/ brake fluid....wound not advise this, spend the $40- at a speed shop and have it cut smooth....use the brake fluid once installed to clean any oils off.

I'm running a stage 3 and it does chatter a bit. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a particularly "streetable" clutch. I mean, I drive the car in a fair amount of traffic and it can get tiresome after a while. I love how hard it grips though. Maybe look at the 3+, but that may be a bit much for the power level you're looking at. I ran a stage 2 previous to the stage 3 before the car was supercharged and it was also a fairly heavy clutch but didn't chatter as much as the puck style clutch. Personally I have had no problems with either my previous stage 2 or this stage 3.

And to add to what someone else already mentioned: Use an OEM TOB!

depends on how you release the clutch how hard your car hooks and what kinda clutch you have. if you have a stage 3 and some slicks and do a hard launch your asking for your tranny to blow up at some point but if the clutch slips a little the power doesnt come on as rapid or violent as a grippier clutch would. ive seen people with 500+ horsepower and use the stock tranny but they dont launch super hard

i had the spec stage 3, and while it didnt chatter at all, it required a tremendous amount of pedal pressure to push it in. i launched at over 6500 rpm with over 500 rwhp, and dead hooked on countless occasions, and it never slipped a bit, and ran as good at the end of owning the car as the day i put it in.

if your making that much power, and plan to go to 500, i would seriously suggest you step up to the stage 3, but if you dont, the 2+ would be the way to go.

with the stage 3, when id pull up to a light, i never sat there with the clutch pressed in. it would seriously make the ole leg start to hurt lol..... it also wasnt a lot of fun in stop in go traffic, as you couldnt slip it much at all. it was either on or off. i know i make it sound terrible, but it wasnt to bad, just nowhere near the same as stock or even the stage 2 spec.

ran over 500 rwhp and 600 ft lbs of tq through a bone stock t45 for over a year, with countless drag passes launching on nitrous with 500rwhp and dead hooking...... wouldnt suggest it, but mine lasted a long time.
