Center Console heating up

When my windows are cracked a tremendous amount of heat comes up through the vents and the center console... So hot it makes the plastic soft... I dont know if this is just heat being drawn in from the engine bay or what.

Its not nearly as bad when the windows are up, but the heat is still there it just seems to stay out of the Cabin. The AC is still cold as ice. I dont know if its related but ive had 3 OEM Stereos go bad in it aswell, they seem to malfunction because of the heat. Any ideas??

not sure exactly lower quarter of the guage.. never had any engine overheating issues. I think the heat Coil might be sticking on but that doesnt explain why i have cold AC

The heat is present all of the time, but like i said it only flows into the cabin when the windows are down and im moving. Assuming thats because the vacuum pulls the hot air into the cabin. Thats also when the stereo fries the most... Its an 04 and has some suspensiong and drivetrain mods but the engine is untouched. Its a GT with 5spd. Im pretty certain its not just engine heat being pulled in, because i dont even think air passing under the engine would be that hot, but i did put a short throw shifter in and didnt replace the rubber boot. Then again the first stereo fried before i did that so.... Im at a loss everyone just tells me its an electrical problem and they dont want to take the time to fix it. With the way the economy is that boggles my mind.

Check to make sure the lower shifter boot it on. It seals your car from the engine and exhaust heat. Lets alot of heat into the car, bunch of noise as well.

it had the problem before the boot was removed, but i'll try replacing it and see if that fixes the problem.

If I drive my car long enough I get a lot of heat coming from the tranny/engine area. Bad insulation is the cause.

To make the plastic soft? I'd look into making sure I have enough tranny fluid. Tranny fluid works like any other lubricant, cooling the parts it lubricates.

My center console will heat up a bit during long distances, but nowhere near plastic softening.

Yeah... i literally left like a finger print in the plastic. I'll look into the tranny fluid too. I want to get a new head unit but i need to wait until this issue is fixed..

Yea Id say thats a bit hot. I have a lot of heat coming up through my ebrake area, but not enough to make the plastic soft. I guess I have absolutely nothing to add to this thread.

my bad bro i meant the guy who has the problem with his car.
thinkin they could be clogged and creating such high temps its eaten through the insulation and now causing it to go through the cars flooring to the int pieces its a long shot but possible i guess

I took the boot off because it made it really difficult to shift with the short throw. I was originally told it was electronic, but im thinking it may be a combination of all the things you guys mentioned. Thanks for your help. I'll get it checked out i just didnt know if it was a common problem or not.

The boot isn't going to solve your issues if your melting plastic...sounds like your cat's are clogged and probably glowing, trans fluid makes sense but i gotta believe if the trans got that hot for that long it would be a distant memory....Sounds like u have a major exhaust problem somewhere to generate that kind of heat (wow!) get that straightened out or it's going to wind up ruining your transmission due to the heat....if your radio was causing plastic to melt...smoke in your cab would soon follow! gotta be exhaust to do that maybe a major leak at the H pipe?
