low rpm engine 'grunt' noises.....

I was just curious what to call that sound your car makes when you're going slow (like over a speed bump) in nuetral, and then drop it in 2nd (almost going too slow for second,,not stalling,,but like 500-600rpm) and give it a little gas to go.

Is it just the engine vibrating under heavy load, and rattling my exhaust? I'm hurting anything?

Another reason i ask ...... is that my car makes very little of the noise with the stock intake installed (air silencer, paper filter).

BUT when I installed a granatelli inlet tube, and k&n filter (and introduced an air leak - I think - getting codes P0171 and P0174) this noise was amplified 10x.

...again.. is that due to the engine already running slightly rough, and the added strain and vibration of 'low rpm grunt' makes 'the sound' that much more noticeable?

(newb learning all the little noises on my stang)

Lugging the engine is bad, you shouldn't do it at all. You never wanna drive the car below idle RPMs.
