IAC Black Plastic Box

I've been trying to find out what this is called and what exactly is it's function.

It's the black rectangular plastic box on the hose between the air intake pipe and the IAC on the plenum.

I was wondering what would happen if it was removed. Any thoughts, has anyone done this?

I discovered it is called the "Supercharger Air By-Pass Valve" part number 9H308.

Anyone know exactly what this part does?

I'm guessing it's the valve that regulates the air going in and out of the plenum. Not sure though, this is a good question

Well if it's just an air silencer they sure are proud of it, it lists for $25.80 at Ford.

I haven't looked inside of it yet, but if it doesn't have some type of filter media inside of it or a check valve, then it serves no purpose that I can see. Other than making the 90 degree bend in the hose from the intake pipe to the air by-pass valve (Idle Air Control) module.

It was put in there to make the engine bay look sexy.

Sexy my ass, it would look sexier with a stainless steel braided hose going from the CAI to the IAC module.

Trick Tuners is right, it's just a an air silencer.

I did some more research on this little plastic box and on a Ford TB it was called the Idle Air Valve Resonator. It's only purpose is to silnce the air going throw the hose.

I'm taking it off of mine and running a straight braided hose. The little bit of noise will never be heard over my exhaust system.

Actually this is a pretty good idea. I've been looking but does someone have a good quality source for braided hoses that aren't ridiculously priced?

I just buy mine at a local speed shop.

Or you can check the yellow pages for any companies that make up hydrualic hoses, they will have the braided hose at a cheaper price.

It's pointless and can be deleted. I no longer have one on my car.

D, check out the Spectre line of braided hoses from summit or jegs. They are very reasonably priced
