Question

Forged Internals

Ive been looking to go boost since the power range I want can be done with the 4.6 so to get to my questions.

Im taking my motor in the future and replacing these parts.
All Bearings will be replaced Pistons, Rods, Studs, Keeping stock crank, Gaskets, and other parts etc
Ive been on the Cushman Motorsports website and they have a kit that seems good.
ACE forged H-beam rods
Keith Black forged pistons, rings and rod bearings
handle up to 500hp.

Ive heard of Keith Black and they seem reputable but never heard of ACE though are Keith Black and ACE good forged parts??

I was just wondering if there any good.
Stock Piston CC is 17 correct????

Ill be slapping a Vortech s/c kit aftercooled on. The range I want to reach is 400-430rwhp. I know some of you with vortech kits have reached this range safely on a stock motor.
Im looking at doing the build and s/c at once only cause I want reliability and dont want to dig through the engine bay twice.

i would say yea those parts will hold you over at a 430 range. If our stock parts can do that then those forged parts definitely will. I have 150,000+ miles on my car and its been supercharged since about 125,000 miles. Not one single hiccup in my motor and that is at 427rwhp. You really wouldnt be going into it twice. Im just now starting another build for my motor and as you are, i am using my stock crank. But i plan on 550-600rwhp with some good size boost.

Yeah true I figured if our stock internals can a forged parts can. I was hopping you chime in. haha Cause I know your working on a build as well you had alot of miles on your engine.

On your build what cc pistons are you using? I figured I go with 17cc pistons...havent decided if Boring would be worth it.

Also whats the difference between a H beam rod and a I beam rod? I know one handles more power better correct?

18cc manley pistons w/ rings, MMR 4340 Hbeam rods w/ arp rod bolts, Clevite bearings. H beams are more stout i hear. There are some billet I beams that are better than the 4340 forged H beams.

Ah ok I see. I figured H beams since everyone goes with that.
I have a Feeling I may go Manley everything since the shop that I spoke with to do my engine build uses those parts. So far they where pretty good, getting a deal to get my whole suspension set up as well my rear end and now my engine. I have to go to a body shop and talk about paint and paint on CF.

Thanks for the info and help man +1 rep

I would stick to more of a name brand company for hi-po parts. Keith black makes a hell of a hemi but their piston line is more for the budget minded(less on quality), most of their line is stock replacement. ace rods? maybe cost effective but not something I would want in my engine, to each their own I guess.

build your engine the strongest you can afford even if your plans right now are not that high. Go at least 600( i would not go lower than 900 imo), remember these ratings are fwhp and not rwhp

i own and operate a peformance shop in southwestern Pa, and i have a few customers that use kb pistons because they are cheap to buy... Of all the different pistons i have seen in use, i have seen the most problems with kb, the ring lands crack apart at any sign of detination! I know kb has been in buisiness for a long time and they make really good high end stuff but the lower lines seem to be crap. I feel the best thing to do is to buy a short block already assembled from mmr or someone reputable...just my .02$

A stock shortblock can be built to hold 600rw for under $2000. My spare forged teksid shortblock will only have about $1000 in the build.

yes, if you do some smart shopping and assemble it yourself you can build a good motor for cheap.

I will have less than $2500 in a teksid stroker with billet rods,cp pistons, cobra oil pump/billet gears moroso pan and all studs. engine should handle 1100hp

if you are going all manley then the only determining factor between 600 and 900 will be the crank. Cast=600 forged=900. Price difference of about 350-400 give or take.

Get a Forged Crank...spend the $300...they are bulletproof and no worries, your going through the whole motor anyways. I've built alot of motors and this is one spot I would not save some pesos on.

It is not needed if staying under 600rw. Use the $300-400 you will save on the fuel system to support 600rw.
