Flowmaster or Magnaflow?
Hey everyone, I need new mufflers on my stang..and I'm having a hard time deciding between flowmaster and magnaflow... I've heard magnaflow outperforms flowmaster, but i've also heard magnaflows won't hold up as long..
Does anyone have any experience with this? (not looking for biased opinions on sound..) |

Magnaflow will last much longer than flows, they are stainless steel. Flowmasters will rust pretty quickly.

I'd go flowmaster between the two. I'm not a big fan of magnaflow but to each there own. I'm running a mac catback and i couldn't be happier with the sound, hopefully will be pairing it with a pro chamber or off road H soon.

I have Magnaflows...still in the box... But they look very well built. Stainless steel, pretty solid. |

ive had flows on my car for a whilllleeeee and they ARE rusted a lil bit but i mean NOBODY sees them. i have no personal experience with magnaflow but flowmaster has been around longer and you hear more people going wit flowmaster over magnaflow, i dont really kno why that is. Im happy with my flowmaster mufflers.

I had Super 44's on my car and then switched them to Magnaflows. The in-car noise is so much quieter w/ the Magnaflows and they actually sound better to me when they are at idle and you stand behind the car. Although, I plan on getting MAC's soon cuz I love their sound the best.

I never told OP to get mac's i just mentioned my setup. Flowmasters and Mac sound very simliar and Mac's are almost $100 cheaper. I was thinking of going flowmaster before i bought my macs but i read and even heard clips on youtube and they sound identical so why pay more for it.

MAC's sound similar but they have a distinct sort of rasp sound to them that IMO sounds WAY better than Flows.

WRR1020- Thanks for the advice on flow vs mac. I'll check them out on youtube tonight.
I8ACMRO- Did you notice any performance difference when you went to Magnaflows? I heard they don't have as much back pressure and I know you need at least some of that w/ the 4.6. I'm suppose to take the car to my mechanic tomorrow. I bottomed out and tore a huge hole in my muffler.. can't stand the awful sound anymore..

No performance difference. You won't even notice it unless you do a full catback. It's like an O/R mid-pipe, you lose bottom end cuz of it opening up your exhaust but it does help on the top end.
So basically performance for your car will be none. |

ok, thanks... I already have the o/r h-pipe..I really prefer the magnaflow sound... but the mechanic told me they wear out faster.. I heard something somewhere about the metal mesh inside the muffler loosens and makes it louder.. but i've also experienced the current flowmasters I have now having the baffles break loose and rattle.
