How do I know what axle ratio I have, was there an option in 2000?

Hi, sorry to be asking so many questions. I was wondering if there was a 3.55 axle ratio option for the 2000 mustang gt with the 5 speed manual. The guy i bought the car from special ordered it from the factory and just was wondering because it seems to pull way harder than 3.27's. If it was a different ratio then 3.27, then where would it say? The car is completely stock, and i can easily break the tires loose at 50mph in 3rd with traction control on. Is this normal? My buddies 2002 Gt, seems slow in comparison, again he has no mods.

Thanks

you've got to be pushing it really hard to even do that. What size tires are you running? If you have stock 235s that may be why. what rpms are you running? That is the easiest way to tell. I run 2000 at 60mph in 5th gear, and 2500 rpm at 80mhp in 5th gear. And that is with 3.73s

If you put it on a lift you should be able to find out by rotating the driveshaft until the tires rotate 1 full time. Example- my car is 3 and 3/4 turns on the driveshaft to one rotation on the tires. If you have 3.55s it should be 3 1/2 turns.

Stock tires are 245/45, they are 25.68" tall. If you can tell us what RPM you're running at a certain speed, we might be able to tell you what gear you have. But yeah, jacking up the back end, spinning the tire one rotation, and counting how many times the driveshaft goes around is the best way to do it.

I can't break the tires loose in 1st gear at 0 mph with the traction control on. That's the point of traction control. But you shouldn't be able to break the tires loose at 50 mph anyway, especially with the car being stock.

the traction control could be broke... what rpms are you running when you are breaking lose in 3rd? Are you doing this in the rain and not telling us, cuz I my 3.73's take me all the way to 50 mph.. third and i'm up to 60 by the time you can snap your fingers

No, it wasn't in the rain, that is way easy. I was not really puishing the car hard at all, just accelerating onto the freeway. I turn about 1600 rpms at 60mph in 5th. I think I firgured out the issue. I have ultra high performance summer tires on the car, and the temp outside was about 30*. I think hard tires on a cold road surface is what is happening. What I meant by breaking loose, is not all out wheelspin but instead rear end wiggle. Or the car kicking out to the left.

My car runs 2000 at 60mph in fifth gear, so if you are dead on in your rpms and speed you might have 3.55s. but i can't say for sure

There is no option on a New Edge GT for anything other than 3.27's. Prob your tire selection.

My tires are fierce Hp tires in the size of 245/45R17. They are made by goodyear and don't seem to be bad tires. The previous owner was an avid car collector, he had to get rid of this car to make room for a twin turbo 2010 camaro. From the looks of the car it seems to be all stock under the hood but I am begining to think if you have money you can make it look that way.

3.55s were not offered as an option until the S197s. 3.27s were standard on New Edges.

Make a video.

open the hood. Show us under the hood. Start the car and rev the engine. After that go for a test drive and show us what you mean.

Then we can figure this out for you.

Also for the axel ratio thing. Get a sharpie. Put your car up on jack stands in the rear. Put a mark at the bottom of the wheel and a mark somewere on the driveshaft and have that mark line up with somewere on the diff that dosnt move. Rotate your driveshaft with your hands and see how many rotations of the driveshaft it takes for your wheels to spin 1 time around fully. Thats your axel ration. Mines 3.08, it takes 3.08 roations of the axel to spin my wheels once around
