Lower control arms idea?? will it work

So I was under my car changing my fuel filter and was thinking, would it be a good idea if we weld a plate of metal to box them in and add some new bushings?? Any ideas or comments? Will doing this yield the same results as buying aftermarket control arms??

P.S I’m not doing this because im cheap, just throwing out some ideas.

Thanks to all.

It'll definitely help, but it won't be as strong or light as an aftermarket unit. I'd do it if you're on a tight budget or if you have class restrictions that require retaining the stock arms.

I agree that it will work, but would be a lot of work to do correctly and probably add some bind to the rear suspension. This will lessen the flexability of the arms and the bushings will be asked to do all the work. Since you are into AX, I am very surprised you have not gone aftermarket arms anyway.

I am planning on getting the MM control arms, I just had this idea and wanted to run it by you guys since I haven’t seen anybody really discussing this topic. But thanks anyways, I didn’t really think it would work properly but what ever new ideas never hurt right…. lol

Thanks for the input

No probs, man. Though I don't think that's a new idea. It was pretty common to box in the control arms before the aftermarket ones were widely available.
