I wonder if anyone here had this happen to them.
So im cruising down the highway at 70mph, my cruise control is on and i look down and I see my odometer screen is blank. So i keep driving for about 10 more miles thinking it'll come back on. It doesn't. I get to my buddy's house, turn off the car and crank her back up. odometer works again. Then when leaving my buddy's place, i crank hr back up and the odometer starts flashing at me and goes blank.
i turn her off and crank up one more time and everythings fine. What just happen to me? |

dumb question here.. but did you have your dash lights turned down? I know I can turn my odometer off with out turning my dash lights all the way off.. is the reason I ask.

Had the same thing happen in my 99 F150. No one seem to know what it could be and did not want to invest the money to look for the problem so i left it. It still racks up the miles. My guess would be and I did this but could not find any, look for lose wires under the dash.

i think it will be fine, dont know if it is messing anything up in your ride tho. just keep track of your miles and hopefully it wont be "miscounting" them.

I dont have much time right now. I will make a more detailed one tomorrow but for the time being. Remove the cluster, its pretty straight forward. Start with the trim that goes around the top of the cluster, then the lower trim, etc. Once the cluster is out remove the bolts on the back of it. They should be 5.5mm. Youll see a small plug on the back of the board, unplug if then carefully separate the board from the cluster it just sits on some pins/pegs. On the bottom left youll see a cut out in the board. Right above it youll see 8 solder joints/pins a space then another joint/pin. Typically that single joint/pin on the right is the one with the issue. The easiest way to find which one it is forsure is to get a magnifying glass and check them all out. Itll be pretty obvious which one is bad. Then get a soldering iron hot as possible and touch it on the bad pin/joint just enough to slightly melt it then remove the soldering iron and problem is fixed.
