quarter mile traction
I have a '04 Mustang GT convertible. I am completing a Kenne Bell 2.1 supercharger kit installation with big tube intake. According to kenne bell I will have 428 rwhp. I am looking for suggestions to aid in traction to improve quarter mile times and any recommendations on drag radials, size, mfg., etc. The car has a an automatic trans and 3.27 rear end. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

First thing that comes to mind is subframe connectors. I wouldn't do a thing before that.

+1, u definitely wanna get your drivetrain and suspension prepped and modded to handle that extra power better, you'd most likely break something soon runnin that power on all stock components, and I dont think those factory automatics are rated to handle that much hp
and I think you would want actual slicks instead of drag radials, imo |

according to kenne bell ford the stock components will do fine. It is a matter of a few other modifications for traction and learning to drive the car. Anyone got any other suggestions.

Well the stiffer u make the car the better traction you will have. esspesally since its a convertible i would do some sub frame connectors and the maybe a 6 point cage, and maybe some lakewood 90/10 Struts and some adjustable shocks.

yeah, u will need a roll cage before u can run on most tracks depending on what kind of times your car will do

And I apoligize, but its not a cage until it goes thru the dash so its acutally only a roll bar at that point but it will still help a bunch.

At my local track it is below 10 sec. times. Kenne Bell swears to me that once I learn to drive the car in stock configuration I will get mid 12 times. They tell me that if I do a few small rear suspension changes I will be able to achieve mid to high elevens depending on what I do and they recommended going to lakewood for some products and a drag radial. That is why I was asking for help in the drag radial area and rear suspension. I don't want to hurt the road handling of the car. For another $700 dollars I can add an significant amount of horsepower but I need to be able to stick it to the ground. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. I will share all good or bad results. So far I have spent many thousands and very pleased with Kenne Bell. I just need a little more help. Please!

they're made out of a compound thats really heat sensitive and they're good for everyday street use too. Im gonna put a pair on the front of my car when the sumitomos wear down

You should get ahold of someone at Lakewood for suspension parts. You can get things like tubular k-members, which will help take weight off of the front of the car. Also, upper and lower control arms, like mustangMatt said some 90/10 struts for the front to help push the nose up on launches, you can also get adjustable style that you can adjust at the track and still retain relatively nice street manners. Subframes are a great way to stiffen a chassis. If you're gonna do subframes then get the weld in kind, much better than the bolt on stuff. For a free mod at the track you can take off your front sway bar for better weight transfer, this would work even better with some front drag style adjustable suspensions parts. There's a ton of things, this is all that I could think of immediately.
Oh yeah, upgrade your axles and get some real slicks. |

for daily driving the 555r is great, but if hooking up is the concern the m/t street radials would be a little better. i run the m/t e.t streets at the track and love them. i recommend control arms, torque box reinforcement, and subframe connectors at least. i put all that on mine and was a ble to tell a night and day difference in the way the car felt, feels so attatched to the road now. i also recommend a 31 spline w/4.10's out back, stall converter, and a good work through on the trans. as for size of tire; 275's on stock wheels and 315 on 10.5 aftermarket for radials, 26x10.5 or 26x11.5 on 15 inch rims as long as you have stock size brakes

good point, but it is also personal preference. my buddy had 4.10's in his with 8psi and a couple of other things and that is what he wanted, it worked great, but i think that i would of went 3.73. like i said though thats all in preferences.

i just figure with as much torque as the kb puts out downlow that it would even just overwhelm some of the good drs

Put the biggest slicks or the biggest drag radials you can fit on the car and you will have traction.
