Just finished Head and Cam install, do i need a new tune?

I just got done, and notice my low RPM power isnt what it used to be, i know this is a given because i have my heads and cams setup for higher RPMS (stage 2 comp cams, 30lb/hr Steeda injectors & stage 3 Patriot heads). But im somewhat curious, do you guys think i need to get it Dynotuned? Also i think i might be starving the engine of air, i have stock throttle body on right now with a BBK 75mm CAI, and stock MAF. The heads move so much air it sounds like ive got a blower, that or its sucking in so much air the whistle coming from the engine bay is the maximum allowed with the the stock TB and MAF. Any opinions? My powerband is way high. Im thinking i need a new intake, TB and MAF along with a dyno tune. Eventually some Forged Pistons, and rods.

yes you need a tune after a cam and head swap.

yes you need a tune after a cam and head swap. also a 70 or 75 mm tb and plenum bould be wise before you go get your tune.

air movement is everything in a 4.6, for best perfomance you need the best to go with it. accufab if possible but any after market t/b and plenum combo will ok, do p&p work if possible. as for the maf, not really necessary but up to you, i recommend a c&l maf at least. ive got a c&l maf and inlet tube and it is awsome! with the c&l maf no retunning is necessary for the maf, but with the bigger injectors, cams, and heads the flow rate is so much higher a dyno tune is needed for sure.

Thats about right, my local shop charges around $700 to dyno tune, and that includes an XCal 2. It should be ok to drive, but performance and gas consumption will suffer. I wouldnt get on it too hard until it is tuned either.

Get a SCT XCAL2 or a SCT Eliminator Chip...Then have them tune on that...

The dyno tune cost all depends on how much time it takes to tune it...It could take an hour or it could take 4 or more...

My local shop charges the $700 as a flat rate regardless of how long it take to dyno. They also warranty the tune and will adjust for free if the car runs poorly down the road.

Dyno tuning is the BEST way to get a tune. Chipping a car, or just making changes with a handheld unit without a dyno will only get you so far, and may not work for you at all. Even Kenne Bell tunes (they come on a chip) are hit or miss, every car is different.

I know a guy who installed the KB S/C, threw their chip in, and the car would barely run. Dyno tuning matches the tune to your car and modifications 100%. After dropping the $$ for the cams and heads, it only makes sense to top off the install with a proper dyno tune for the very best performance.

The chip they burn do suck IMHO...

I was talking about having the person doing the dyno tune brun the tune on the chip...Most shops can tune the car and then burn it on a chip...

Thats kinda outrageous to charge $700 for a tune...

Where are you located?

I mean that is more then what Tim @ MPH charges and he is like the tuning mesiah...

600-700 is pretty normal for tuning, well nromal for the guys who really know what they are doing. your small shops that dont know everyhting about the cars will charge less but someone who really knows there stuff will charge 125-150 an hour

i would rather pay more and have someone get the tune right than pay less and get a grenade under my hood.
