Couple questions about my first mustang..

Hey guys, I am brand new to this site and as a mustang owner. I just bought a 2002 GT (roush). At least I think so..here's the deal. I didn't buy the car under the assumption it was, it was just a good deal on a GT in general. Ive done a little research. On the Roush Performance website when I type in the last six of the VIN it does find the car. but under stage it says SS? does this mean the sport package? Also, i have looked at the standard equipment for it and mine doesnt have any stickers or emblems. All it has is the sticker on the passenger door and roush rims. Anyway I can find more about it? Thanks for the help.

Well my new Roush owning friend you are in luck. In 2001 Roush started keeping great records of all the cars they built. So call Roush and they can tell you everything you want to know about it. What stage it is, what options it was ordered with and even the dealer that it was shipped to. With out seeing pics of it its hard to say whats right and whats been taken off the car.

I have seen that the roushperformance website charges like $50 or something for detailed info. Are these the people I should be calling or is there other roush numbers to call? And, thanks for the help. I will try to get pics up soon.

Also, while I am thinking about it the car has 72,000 miles on it now. Is there anything I should look into or expect to change now or in the near future. Being my first mustang Im kind of on my own on this and still learning. Thanks for the info.

I own a 2000 Stage II and when I called I was told all the records from 97 - to late 00 were all stored off site as paper build sheets. I paid the $50 for my build sheet and information and it took almost a year to get.

Now on the other hand I had a friend of mine that bought a 01 and we simply called the 1-800 number with the vin# and the nice lady verified it was indeed a Roush Stage II build number XXXX. I just told her I was looking to buy this car and wanted to know if it was indeed a real Roush and what stage as there was no marking on the car only a build number in the door.

It depends, did the previous owner keep a record of the maintenance he did to it? If not (since most car owners don't keep up with scheduled maintenance and let shit break before they fix it) you might want to just look over parts that take more wear than others and see if anything looks like it needs to be replaced. More than likely you could use new spark plugs and air filter for sure (I bought my Mustang with 97k miles and almost everything was still from the factory, even the air filter looked like it had never been touched). Check the brakes, exhaust, belts, cooling system, pcv valves, ignition components, etc.

Thanks for the pics. Those Argent rims are the old school type. Is there a Roush sticker in your passenger door? Everything I could finds says you should have the Roush body kit and your car doesn't. I know a lot about them but not even close to everything. Below is some information about the different Roush models.

I will ask a couple questions over there and yes there is a roush serial number sticker on the passenger door seal. Its just 4 numbers, not like the YR-XXXX for example i have seen on other sites. Did that start in a later year?

Yes that did start in later years. Your built number should be 4 numbers, My build is #2568. Also doesn't mean that the last owner didn't like the body kit and stripped it off. I would be calling Roush tomorrow for sure. Once you know what stage it is, then you can piece it back together if you wanted to.
