I would have a professional do it right. You also would have to have c-clip eliminators installed on the axles. The axle tube has to be machined in order for the new eliminators to fit. At that point you should have the axle tubes welded.

To get rid of the c-clips you only need the c-clip eliminators pressed on the axles and the axle ends machined to accept them...It's not cheap to have done. I have it done..
Now you can be cheap and get an open diff for 31 spline axles and put a mini spool in it that accepts c-clips. I ran one in my 8.8 before switching to the spool. I ran my best et's with a mini spool.

mmm never knew that. I saw a guy with a few spool and 31 splines with no c-clips and just figured thats how it was done..

Thanks for the lesson

you won't have to reshim if you use same carrier/gears and install a mini spool.

Why anyone would run a spool on the street is beyond me, very hard on tires/axles on turns. if you drive on street and want spool like performance on the track, get a detroit locker. They do make a ratcheting noise on turns but is much easier on the rear end in general, or a arb locker would be nice if they handle the power

Didn't know they made a mini spool to fit in a auburn pro series diff.

I have no issues driving my spooled car on the street.
