cam cap bolts

I will be replacing my lifters, rockers and timing kit this weekend. When I was doing my cams, and then when I did my head job, I noticed that the bolts that hold the cam caps on seem to be torque-to-yield style bolts. I had a few snap on me the third time around and I am worried about re-using them a 4th time...

so my question is, can i throw some regular ace hardware bolts of the same thread/length and seat? the OE style bolts are like 5$ a piece from ford...

i reused mine but this was the first time since stock... If you got some that are like it then it shouldnt be bad. I wouldnt get zink or anything soft like that.

i wouldn't go with anything less than grade 8's if you plan on going that route. and no, they aren't tty. you are tightening them too tight!

I torqued them properly, I don't know how tight the guy I bought the motor from had them. One broke the first time on the way out, so I assume he over torqued them. I had another one that was completely deformed.

So looks like I'm going to the hardware store when I get them out...

Cam cap bolts only call for 90 inch pounds. That is only 7.5 foot pounds.

im glad you broke that down for me! haha i set mine at 8 foot pounds because i thought thatw as about right. i looked in the manual and it said the 90-? so i kinda went in between.

If you over torque those would it cause a "clamping" on the cam making it harder for the cams to spin?
