H pipe confusion NEED ADVISE

Hey all, so im looking to purchase the SLP LM1 kit for my car soon and would like to do a mid-pipe as well. Ive been doing my homework on X vs H and have feel in love with the sound of an H pipe but am alittle worried about what im hearing . In doing my research everyone is saying the H pipe is the wrong way to go, is this true? What is the honest unbiased truth about the matter. Thanks agian guys and all advice and thoughts are valued greatly!!!

The way to go is whichever you prefer the sound of. Not gonna be any real difference in power between the X and H. Go with which one you like the sound of.

when I had my LM1 on my car, I tried pretty much every mid-pipe I thought would give me a decent sound (best count? 7 diffrent mid-pipes) the only way it sounded good to me is with the stock catted h. it's long gone now but IMO, you have to use some kind of h pipe with a LM1 (you do know that a car with a LM1 & no cats is deafening right? I meen it's LOUD, so much so that it's not even fun to drive the car). a LM1 with an off road x will sound like a cross between a 2 cycle dirt bike & a ricer honda only about 10 times as loud.

Thanks all so far! I was looking into the MRT catted H pipe O/R is too loud for me, i know it's expensive but i'm willing to spend the money for it.

Also, i just read that you gave top end with an X pipe and bottom end with an H pipe, do you lose anything depending on which you choose or does it pretty much stay the same?

I had the SLP LM1's in my car with a mac o/r hpipe for almost a year. The lm1's sounded good to me until i put the o/r hpipe in. after i put the hpipe in it sounded EXTREAMLY raspy and was just annoying driving around. I just changed and have flowmaster super 44 weld in's. again its all up to you but if you dont like super loud and poppy i wouldnt go with the lm1's.

Will the raspyness (if thats a word lol) differ depending on a catted or O/R mid pipe?

I wouldn't think. I would think the entire volume would just be lower.

i think you gain torque with h pipe and top end with x pipe...

with the xpipe i felt a nice top end gain but maybe a slight loss down low...which isn't really a big deal to me. but it still made 280 tq with just x pipe and mufflers...with the h pipe i wouldn't expect to gain any up top but maybe some torque or at least no loss of it as i felt with my x pipe

H-pipe gives more bottom end power whereas the X-pipe gives top end power..Since the 4.6L torque band kicks in around 3300 rpm or so, it'd stick with an H-pipe just to the lower end power.

best off to listen to other mustangs & utube for ideas on what sounds good to you. the power diffrences aren't enough to justify one over the other (or even aftermarket exhaust period) exhaust system's main function even at high h/p levels is mostly just to direct the exhaust out from under the car & quiet it down. there aren't enough gains to be had there to buy for h/p claims alone (mabie 10 h/p, mabie a few more)

Thanks everyone for your input, it REALLY helped me out! Considering i'm not really one for drag racing or any of that besides my occasional light to light, power really isn't a huge deal to me, is more about sound. I just wanted to make sure that the H pipe wouldn't hurt anything or cost me HP but since the general vote is that i won't see much of a gain regardless of H or X i think i've got my answer!! If anyone has anymore to add PLEASE DO, Im still open to any comments or suggestions! Thanks again guys!
