Need help with front brakes! Quick Please

Alright so I get a new set of rotors and pads for the front on my mustang. Well I get everything installed and now my front drivers side is sticking. The passenger side is fine. All I done was removed the caliper's put in the new pads and replaced the rotor. I removed the cap off the fluid reservoir and used a c-clamp to push in the pistons. I bolted the calipers back on,put the cap back on the reservoir and pumped the brakes a few times. I turned the hubs by hand to check for drag and everything seemed fine. I drive down the road and come back and smelt my brakes smoking. I got a temp gun and my passenger side rotor was reading 91 degrees but my drivers side was reading 309 degrees. I jacked up my car and couldn't turn the tire. I removed the caliper and pads reinstalled them, bolted the caliper back up turned the hub by hand and their wasn't any drag. I drive down the road again about a mile turn around come back home. Freaken brakes smoking again. The temp gun read about 90 degrees for the passenger side and over 300 degrees again for the drivers side. I'm dumbfounded now. I know I done everything right and theirs not any air in the lines. The brake pedal feels fine and my fluid level is normal. Can someone please help? It's getting dark and I gotta go to work tomorrow.

Those pistons on the caliper have to be screwed in with a 12 dollar tool you can pick up from any advanced auto or autozone. You may have fried that caliper by just compressing it. I just replaced my right rear rotor caliper and pads because my caliper was fried. I'm pretty sure thats what happened to yours though. It has to be turned while your compressing it

replace the calipers, the pistons on the left side are sticking. just get a set of semi-loaded calipers.

the front rotors dont need that cube tool only the rears do. i use a c clamp all the time and never had that problem. check and see if the sliders have any grease and if they are bled right of the pisont itself might be sticking

How much is a caliper? Also why isn't the passenger side caliper messed up also?

dont get a new caliper unless the pistons are frozen inside of the caliper in which i dont think they are from what you are telling me. just take the sliders out and put some grease on them and try re bleeding them again

Sorry but that part has me confused. I know the sliders don't have grease on them but the pads were sliding side to side fine. I never had to bleed my lines before doing it the way I described above. Not saying that's not a possible problem though. My car is stopping fine and the brake isn't dragging bad enough to notice it while driving but I know 300 degrees and smoke coming from them when I only drove a mile is not normal.

Ok disregard my last post I understand what you mean by sliders now. I'll do that in the morning. I don't have a shop and it's too dark now. I could go to my parents but it's a 10 mile drive and I don't think it would be good to drive that far.

well you only need that cube tool for the back brakes because you have to turn the piston in and push at the same time but anyways the sliders are the part that the caliper moves back and forth and they need grease. if you loosened the bleeder screw when you pushed the pistons back you need to re bleed them and get any air out or else the piston in the caliper my not come back and pretty much will lock up and you wont be able to move the wheel

Thanks for the info. I didn't remove the bleeder screw just took the cap off the reservoir and pushed in the pistons. When I got done reinstalling everything I replaced the lost fluid and pumped the brakes while the car was running.

yeah you probably sucked in a little air when you were pushed the piston back. all you need to do next time is use one of the old pads and push the piston back with a big c clamp and problem solved

Ok So today I try to fix my brakes. I bled enough fluid through the line to use up a 32oz bottle of brakefluid but still no luck. I removed the pistons and cleaned them oiled em a little and reinstalled. They looked fine. I greased my slider's but the brakes are still sticking. I'm dumbfounded. I know the caliper most likely needs replacing. That's what i'm gonna do tomorrow. Can someone just explain what the hell happened though? I just don't understand how a caliper can just mess up by replacing the pads. It doesn't make any sense. The pistons will push out but not come back in.

It was just its time to go, Might have been weak already but then once you pushed them back with the clamp it was the end. Weird things happen like that.

Yea at the most inopportune time. I was an hour late to work this evening cause I had to borrow my dad's truck. I alway's leave a vehicle at home for my wife in case something happens to her or my little girl and they need a vehicle so I left my truck with them. Needless to say it felt weird driving my dad's truck. It's a 99 F150 v6 with the 5 speed manual. Man that tranny felt sloppy shifting the gears compared to my car and the power, well the truck is respectable but I want my car back asap. I'm gonna leave straight from work in the morning and go pick up the caliper and get it back on the road again. Seems like everytime I go to buy a mod for a vehicle something has to break and stall progress.

I found a set of reman ones for $68. The thing is though i'm starting to think my calipers aren't the stock ones. The ones on my car are red and say PBR i think on them it's 3 letter's and I do know it starts with a P. I don't know what the stock ones look like though.

Well I got off work this morning at 6:30 and called o'reilly's and they said the caliper would arrive around 9:00a.m. I make the 30 mile drive over there only to find out they received the wrong caliper. The parts guy told me the right one would arrive at 2:00 p.m. I stop by my parents house and got a couple hours sleep since that's where my car's at and headed back over there the second time. Well I return back with the caliper got it bolted up and realized they gave me one for the passenger side front! I was well pissed to say the least. I bet the first caliper they got was the right one. I gotta go back over there tomorrow morning at 9:00 to get the correct one. I think the next time i'm gonna pay someone else to change my brakes. I've done over a dozen different car's and neve had a problem. Now this simple job has turned into a nightmare.

Damn that sounds like a hassle. But trust me...you should deff do them yourself. Ford charged me close to a grand just to replace all 4 rotors and put on new pads. Never am I going to make that sorry mistake again!

sounds like either the caliper just took a shit on you or the master cylinder seal is bad

Woot! Woot! Finally got my brakes fixed. I don't think i'll ever deal with that O'Reilly Auto Parts again. I called this morning at 9:00 a.m. and they didn't have any record of another caliper being ordered. The guy I talked to yesterday said the correct one would be there at 9:00 this morning. Well the guy told me he would place and order for another one and that it would arrive at 2:00p.m. Luckily when I got there at 2:00 p.m the correct one had arrived. Only took me an hour to fix everything once I got back to my parents house. I was surprised to see it didn't take much to get the line and caliper bled of air. It feels good to be driving my car again!
