intake recall for 99-04 GT's

i called ford today to get my paint code because i'm getting my rear trunklid painted next week. i gave them the vin and they told me the car has a recall for the intake manifold. they say the intake cracks causing coolant leaks into the spark plug holes on the head. sound familiar to anyone? the service writer said if i scheduled an appt they will replace it for free. anyone have a carboned up intake on their car? call up ford and see if your car falls in the category. i don't know if i really need to get it done or if i want the ford techs groping my car though..

What part of the VIN makes it eligible?

I don't need one, but it would be nice to know for future reference...

And the Ford techs like if you grope them back.

I wouldnt let them within a mile of my car buts thats jus me....I know they are highly qualified and trained but I jus dont like the idea of someone else workin on my car

I wonder if I took it off and brought it in if they would give me another one or just give me one.....hmmmm...

no i have a procharger. and i probably wouldn't let them work on my car because i don't want them to mess with it.

Open up your hood look at the manifold, if the coolant cross over is aluminum your fine. It was the coolant cross over that cracks in the manifolds that have an all plastic cross over & and not the later aluminum one that Ford put out to fix it.

Eh, not true. Ford wouldn't have put out the TSB if it wasn't a "common" problem. Mine cracked in my 96 GT.

Ford put out the TSB because a lot of manifolds were cracking and costing a lot of people money prematurely.

It started out on taxis and police cars, then some f-150's and eventually the mustangs started to have the problem too.

Just call your local dealer and see if your eligible for a free replacement or not. I think the TSB only covers up to 2002 though.

Oh and as a tech, we don't like being groped by guys... or their cars.

I believe so. You'll have to call your dealer and check though.

Your nitrous wont have any effect on it. Its the coolant cross over that cracks, Nothing with the intake runner part of it. My borther had it happen on his thunderbird when he had it

Its a tsb so its going to be for certain date and also mileage.
