First Mod!

There has been threads lately over what mods one should do to a car.. Here is my suggestion

The first mod one should do is PLAN!

Before you touch your car one should plan on what route they take. That includes F/I, Nitrous, or just staying N/A

After you decide what plan... STICK to it.

IMHO one should do the necessities for any route you go. That means SUSPENSION MODS, TIRES, and beefing up the transmission, and getting a tuner. IT MAY NOT BE COOL BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE POWER MODS however I can launch insanely well and will walk my buddy's TransAm from 0-90 MPH because of proper suspension and proper tire set up. He has 100 RWHP OVER ME!

It gets very expensive trying to go backwards to go forwards.. Im a perfect example of this... As some know, my original plan was to go turbo.. somewhere down the road i bought nitrous, long tubes, O/R H pipe, and 4:10 gears.. While my car was fast I was never satisfied with the car. It wasn't the route i wanted to go. First I lost money on the parts I sold, and had to pay for labor TWICE, once to put my mods on and once to take it off.. Im over a thousand in the hole...

If ones route is turbo, do mods that will benefit for the future. As an automatic car, MY FIRST mods should have been a stall converter, shift kit, transmission cooler (amazing way to keep your transmission from failing, and if you don't have a stall or shift kit is still recommend one still buying it), and a tuner to work with this. From there plan your budget and keep going forward.

Many don't realize that the amount of money that is poured in for going N/A is very close to the cost that many guys here have invested in a form of F/I.

If ones goal is going supercharger, bolt ons work well with them... In this instance one can get gears, long tubes, O/R H pipe, etc etc. because it makes it more efficient. Superchargers need RPMs to make power.

If staying N/A, one should then do the mods that will benefit them. All the bolt ons.

If one doesn't want to get stuck on their build and don't want to lose money, planing is the way to go. I hope this helps people with their question on what route to go.

is that a shot at me?

and in my case, bolt ons like plenum/tb will help my future turbo

Good write up. I know I won't be going F/I in this mustang. The car has 109k miles on it, and its not worth throwing a blower in it when I plan to sell it in a year or two. My route at the moment is gears and suspension, sub frame connectors, struts, shocks, tires, ect. Alot of my friends eat me up saying, "put a KB in it, bla bla bla," but that is dumb with my situation. Planning is a great idea and it works.

Good comments. Before anyone spends a penny they should consider what they want their car to do. Plan the build. Build to the plan.

O I know that my 4.6L will last for awhile. I was just getting across that the car is kind of older, and I want an s197 , so there isn't a point throwing a blower on my car when I am selling it in a year or two at most.
