A ? about going from t45 to t3650

I have gone through 2 t45's in my 2000 gt. I have a guy trying to sell me a 03 mustang tranny (3650?). I was told I would have to change the crossbar and get a speedometer adapter. ? is are they interchangeable and if so what do i need to switch them out? Please help me I want to buy the 3650 tranny tomorrow morn!!!!!

i think it should just swap right over. your car now has an 10.5" clutch/ flywheel more than likely. the TR3650's have an 11". i think that is the only real difference but the clutches are both 10 spline so i wouldnt see why it shouldnt swap right over. you could get the clutch/flywheel just to be safe though.

You can do either flywheel in either of them. And i did the swap when i bought a built one and nothing else needed to be changed. I bought a new flywheel to go with it though (aluminum).

If you're that hard on transmissions going with a 3650 is NOT the answer. Although the shift forks as better the syncros are the weak point and very expensive to replace. Billet shift forks for the T-45 are your best bet. Also proper clutch disengagement is the key to saving the shift forks.

The 3650 will swap, with a speedo adapter as teh t-45 uses a cable driven speedo and the 3650 is electronic. Also like stated the t-45 uses a 10.5" clutch and the 3650 uses an 11".

the shift forks are very weak, but worse are the shifter selector arms. They are stamped steel and break with hard shifting. There are some that have been upgraded by the factory but theres no telling if you have them until you break or tear it apart.

this is true, but the 3650 is a little stronger, minus the synchros. But all manual trans can have a synchro go out. IMO its the driver that ruins the synchros.

from my experience the t-45 billet shift forks are around $200 a piece? JAYC correct me if im wrong.
If you twisted the inputshaft, Look into upgrading it to a 26 spline.

The 99-01 T-45 uses a electronic speedo also. The plug in is just a little different size. Just splice the tr3650 plug on to the wiring harness. The T-45 and the TR-3650 can both use a 11" or 10.5" clutch. I run a 2000 GT 8 bolt flywheel and a 10.5" clutch with a TR-3650. You can either modify the crossmember or get one for the TR-3650

see I'm going the oppsite way.. I'm putting t45 in mine probably buying tomorrow... Where mine was a t3650... I've been told as long as its a 99 - early 01 t45 everything will bolt right up and you will not have to change a single thing.... is this true??

Pretty much a straight swap. Even a 96-98 would fit and run fine, but the speedometer wouldn't work.
