Built Rear end, Diff, Axle, Gears, DR.
hey guys, I got one more month till I bring the car back out for spring and im doing a built rearend first thing. I've been reading quite a bit over the last few months but I'm still really confused on what to do. Here are my plans for the car for this spring. Basically I do not want to break stuff. How is that the Cobra guys are running 600hp with DR and I do not see them breaking things. What are they doing to their cars we are not?
My car is NOT a track car. I'm building it to be a street weekend car. With the the power adder I want to see 430RWHP at first and keep building it to 500RWHP as time goes on. I may go to the track a few times a summer. Oh and my car is a 5-speed. Spring mods: -Built rearend - 31 Spline Axle - Detroit Locker 913A561 Detroit Truetrac Differentials Is this overkill for my purpose? -373 or 4.10's, not sure yet. -LCA -Subframes - http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-tq -I'm considering doing the Nitto NT05's Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts as well in the back which from what I hear, these things grab like a drag radial. Also I know right now my car is barely making enough power to even turn a sticky tire but I'm preparing for the future. Next summer I plan on supercharging and this summer is all about preparation for the power adder. So my question is what do I have to do to not break shit. From the threads I've read people say to go with the Detroit truetrac. But is this over kill for me if I'm not going to the track hardly ever? I'm also trying to do this build as cheap as possible while not cutting any corners. Also i hear that the 150, S197 and explores have 31 spline axles. Can I go to a junk yard and buy some and will that equal the strength of the mosers or is moser still my best bet? And is there really a difference between a DR and the NT05? Would it be smarter to go with the NT05? Thanks guys. Rep for you guys

hell i just ran a truck differential with 31 spline axles.
Bought a junk yard differenetial, bought a rebuild kit from ford. then bought axles from summit. Only thing I didnt do was put c clip eliminators on it. I had 600 max in parts etc after buying all the parts. It held up to 1.5xx sixty foots for over a year and had almost no slack/slop when we inspected it. just my two cents

the reason high-h/p cars that don't break stuff with a stick (you will find most 600+ h/p cars are auto's or swapped to autos though if the guy is at all serious) & d/r's is 'cause the launch very soft & slip the clutch. they seem to be content leaving a lot of time on the table by doing this rather than building the car propperly which is why most high h/p cars have pitiful time's based on their h/p claims.

hmm interesting, well not too sure about slipping the clutch. Seems to kinda take the fun out of it haha.
So do you think I'm still going to break shit with the 31 splines and the trutrac and either a DR or the NT05?

ok sweet. Wondering if I should just get the Truck Diff too now.. hmm. it's kinda killing me to spend 1000 on a built rearend. it doesn't even make you go faster haha. Do you have many passes on that Diff? Wait aren't transbrakes for autos though?

Yukon is mostly used in off road vehicles like rock crawlers and such so I would say they hold up pretty good

ok. How do you think that setup would hold up with NT05?

the main concern would be on the spider gears of the FRPP diff in that kit. I ran all last year with that kit running my Hoosier DRs and launching at 5k with no problems

I put an Eaton posi, with 31 spline moser in mine with motive 3.90's. I have not had a chance to get to the track with it yet, but it feels very strong. I will have more updates this summer with about 600rwhp on the NT05R's.

It was ran for almost a full year every weekend, sometimes twice a weekend so at leat 20 passes a weekend for a year. Trans brakes are tough on set ups, if you leave on one and have a weak link, it will find it for you. Its almost the same as a neutral drop. Park and 1st are engaged, then Park is released in the valve body

A trutrac would be a great diff. I would definitely get it IMO. That with either Strange, Moser, or Yukon 31 spline axles.

1. If it is a weekend cruiser and not your daily driver . travel car.. 4.10's all the way 3.73's are for us that use the stang for the daily driving and traveling because We loose to much valuable mpg off of 4.10's but in your case DO IT.. lol btw a side note 3.73's you loose about .5-1 mpg i think and with 4.10's you loose 1 - 1.5 mpg someone correct me if I am wrong plz.!
2. The NT05's are for street racers and drag strips.. it is NITTO'S upgrade from the 555 since the 555's have been out I believe about a decade now they have changed and from the reviews i read.. the nt05's are 1 HELL OF A STREET TIRE they have extremely good wet traction and AMAZING dry traction.. some major magazine did a comparison between the 555's and the 05's on a modded 97 cobra coupe and couldn't barely touch 70 in the water.. 555's how ever were splitting with ease through the water at 90 mph.. The tread rating is a little better the grip is better, and the handling is better on the nt05 compared to the 555's BASED on the research I have done on the tires and looking at countless test performed through out the internet world on them all back these statistics up so far so I plan on some NT05'S in april or may! any how I hope this helped with this 2 portions..

Also the Terminator cobra's you see with 600 hp also have forged internals different heads, a supercharger and with pulleys and a few other real minor bolt ons are easily at 600 on the DD because the termi's are built for that kind of power.. the ford 8.8 " rear end is one tough son of a bitch and can handle ALOT of power and abuse..
