baby powder if its the belt baby powder will make it quiet until it gets wet again. an old man that i used to work with showed me that trick.

Water is considered a solvent/called the "universal solvent" because most things will dissolve/be diluted by water. Considering it has a ph of 7 theres no way in hell its going to cause any issues with eating your belt such as a "real solvent" like lacquer thinner would.

Figure out what youre gonna do ryan? The soap thing is a pretty good idea, worth a try as well. Same with the baby powder. Only down side I could think of due to the soap is once the belt gets wet its gonna be slippery as shit.

I have had good luck running sandpaper along the edges while engine is running(have to be very careful) because most of the time with reoccurring belt noise there is a misalignment of the pulley's. If it was mine I would just replace the damn thing and not waste my time to temp. remove the noise constantly and look/correct the issue.

Its not alignment, the noise is where it is smooth idlers, so it would adjust itself. Started when I got shit on it. Ill try the sand paper idea. It will rough it up and maybe take the surface off that is making the noise. If not ill just replace it.

And ya this thread cracks me up. Some good ideas though, some not! Belt was quiet untill I was cleaning the underside and got degreaser on it. Was instantly loud as hell. So ill do sand paper, and order new one if it doesn't make it better.

Small squirt of water made it silent. And when belt is warmed up, about 2 miles of driving it shuts up.

You're gonna need a 8 rib setup to run more boost, or a WAY tighter belt. The blower is putting too much strain. Try moving the idlers to get the belt tighter. If this is the same size belt used for the stock boost, then you probably need to get a shorter belt. Belt slip can cause all kinds of weird issues, changes in alternator current, boost, etc. You need to do some RCA (root cause analysis) and solve the underlying issue that is causing the belt to squeak. I wouldn't think that degreaser would cause a belt to slip more, but maybe. You could wash it with detergent, and then rinse it very well.

I have an 8 rib, with 2 idlers that are twice the size of stock ones they have with kit. Wraps the kb pulley about 65-70%. I nailed it with degreaser on the crank pulley. When i missed (was getting right below it). It started melting the belt, i had belt rubber on the idlers lol. Had to clean it twice. Was an "oh shit" moment and ran to turn car off.

I think it just f'd it up and put a residue or layer on it that is making a little noise when its cold. It was fine before i f'd it up. And degreaser was house brand. Shit was stronger than brake dust cleaner (thought it would be more mild).

Ok, got it. I would probably buy a new belt if it keeps acting up. Maybe you melted some ribs down a bit. That would really decrease the surface area.

Yeah, it wasn't the game plan LOL. But shit happens.

And rib side was fine, its the smooth side that i nailed it with. I checked rib side and they are still golden. And not much of the smooth side was dissolved/melted off, can still see the writing on it. But apparently was enough to get rubber on the idler and make noise hehe.

If it gets worse ill get a new belt. I need a slightly bigger one anyways. I can't put the damn thing on unless i have the tensioner pushed all the way, and take idler off and screw it on with tensioner torqued. Pain in the ass!

Also i did the tensioner tab grind down to get me a lot better room, when running it is at the point of where the tab used to be (so way tighter than max).

Little late, but the soap is just to determine that it is the belt, once you know that you buy a new one..why try to save an old belt? It's not like it's even relatively expensive?

Worked out good. Did the sand trick like limited said. Used pretty rough paper but made sure i didn't push hard. I had fine grain but didn't get results i wanted. I held a wet rag behind it to catch the majority of the dust.

Started it up this morning (when it is worst) and it was still doing it but VERY quietly compared to before. So i got a wet paper towel while it was running and held it on the belt and more shit came off. So i did that until it came out clean, then did the ribbed side just encase dust got on there. What do you know! Silent as soon as i was done, was like it flipped a switch.

i will have to try this myself cause my car makes the same noise when its cold out and then it goes away when the motor warms up
