99-04 SRA to IRS swap mix matches...

After completing an 8.8 to IRS swap I thought I would just say a few things to help people out who plan on doing this in the future..

Odd tools needed..

8mm Allen wrench SOCKET (8mm Allen Wrench piece that goes on your 3/8's ratchet).
Air tools would be great for the big brackets that come with an IRS, if you don't have a big pipe or breaker bar as it took an impact to remove.

Caliper/Rotor comparison...

I was told the calipers are the same with just a bigger rotor..

this statement was wrong... it is a bigger rotor so i decided to use my calipers and slide them into his brackets.. if you decide to do this as well you will need to run to a parts store an get the GT/V6 Caliper pin/bolt kit.. aka the pins/bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket. Also make sure you grease those pins before installing the caliper.

Brake lines, stock lines are used but you may have to bend them around the shock of the IRS (bending the metal part obviously).

Also remember to re-attach your e-brake! I figure that out the hard way...

other than that you don't have to drill any holes if your GT is 99-04... and it is a direct bolt in!

If this is helpful just sticky it.

Was amazed at how easy it went in. It took me pretty much by myself, occasional helping hand to push or pull about 30 min to get the IRS from the ground to totally bolted into the car.

As he said, the caliper bolts/slide pins are just a smidge different from the GT to Cobra, other than that hang up it was a lot easier than I had anticipated putting this in for stephen

Why didn't you just use the brakes and stuff that came on the IRS?

Isn't it basically just four bolts to drop the IRS out? I have an IRS from an '03 cobra that I thought about using in my '04 GT, unless someone wants to buy it

It really is, you have to unbolt the quad shock mount, mount a bracket there, then you put the IRS where the lower control arm mounts and into the brackets that replaced the quad shock mount.

Then you just attach the shocks in the stock spot, you can use the gt brake likes too. Just make sure you get the abs sensors for the IRS, different location, but hook up to the GT connector

Yes the install isn't bad at all, but it's heavy as shit, so make sure you have some friends to help you take it out of your truck/suv.

Did a car to car swap over the weekend. Very good experience in learning what to do and not to do.

I am seriously considering going solid axle on my car. Sucks because I have 4.10s, bushings, and IRS brace that I would lose.

glad to hear it went well. Even though I do auto X I still dont want the IRS. Thing weighs a ton and similar handeling characteristics can be had with the SRA using a number of aftermarket packages that dont add all that weight. Extra weight is your enemy in Auto X. It has a big part into how much speed you can carry through a turn

You can swap over your carrier so you keep the 4.10s. You'd get a good chunk of change for an IRS with upgraded bushings and a brace, more than enough to buy a SRA

its cool, yeah the slide pins were the only difference, you had the GT slide pins with a bigger "notch" missing from the head, no big deal, not a world stopper.

Anytime on the help, def not my first go around ripping shit out of one

Good tip Thanks. Reps.

I will probably get rid of it as is if I do and just get some 4.30s.

it's only a thought right now. My car is still a mall cruiser. But damn homie, traction and no hop with just a stock SRA. If I do it, I will start buying new control arms and everything I could before I did the swap.
