SOHC to DOHC motor swap

Alright, I think i'm scrapping my 4.6L SOHC motor and throwing in a terminator motor from a salvaged cobra. I can get the motor, harness, computer, all engine accessories for 6500 supercharger and all with only 38k miles. I'm going to be doing most of the work myself with my father, is there anything I need to know about before going on with this? Do I need a new kmember, brake system or anything like that? Will it just drop right in exactly how the gt motor comes out? Will my T3650 5spd bolt up to it or will i need a the t56? I may go ahead and just upgrade to the t56 either way. Anything that I may need to know before taking on this swap will be appreciated, thanks!

Also: what about the rear end?

you can keep your stock rear end.
terminators tend to like solid rear ends for the tract.
you should probably upgrade your brakes to the oem cobra ones at least.

i dont know if you need a new k-member or not but you should look into suspension as well...

oh and T-56 FTW!!!

yeah I knew the IRS was a bit of a setback for those building a street/strip car. i plan on adding a twin screw whipple and a few other bolt ons to push around 500, what should i do to upgrade my stock rear.

is there anything I should be concerned about as far as the swap goes?

you will not need a new k-member or brakes or anything like that, your transmission will bolt up to it but you will need a new flywheel cause the cobra has a 8-bolt and your gt has a 6-bolt. Everything else you hook up just fine. Good luck with the swap

you wont need a whipple to make 500 with that motor.just use the stock blower if thats the power level you are lookin for. good luck with the swap and post up some pics if you end up doing it

i have an 8 bolt flywheel on my gt, you may have one on yours. slp has a kit that is saying to 575 down. everything is the same and sounds like one hell of a project! the only thing that i can think of is headers/midpipe, that is the only thing that i can think of that wont change over.

turns out it threw 1 rocker from underneath the cam on passenger side. driver side looks fine. i can eaisly remove the passenger side cam and place the rocker back on however is that all i need to do? nothing holds them into place is there anyway i can prevent this from happeneing again and does anyone know why it even happened in the first place?? also could any damage have been done ? i still ran the car about 20-30 ft or so after it started sputtering to get her off the road.

thanks

-Still lookin at the terminator motors :p

You probably need some new valve springs. I can't really figure how you chunked a follower out from under the cam though. Did you torque the cam girdles down to 79 inch pounds? Maybe you over-torqued and got some distortion.

got the valve covers off and the cam lobe happened to be in the perfect position to where i did not need to even remove it i was able to slide it right underneath by hand and it set down perfectly on the two points.. put everything back on, tried to start it. the motor barely fires and i get an extremely nasty tick clicking noise before shutting off by itself.

any ideas?

My 1996 4.6 heads did that when I put the new shortblock in. I think something like 4 of the followers popped off. I sent them to the machine shop to have new comp cams valve springs, retainers, and to have a valve job. Since the new springs, i've never had a prob. Although you could have some bent valves which are causing the tickin. If the follower doesn't fall in the valley part of the head, and it held the valve open, the the valve will be bent and could have even messed up the piston. It just depends when this happened.
