so my boys evo sounds real nice and everytime he redlines or downshifts the car makes a pop-pop-pop and shoots some flames out the tail pipe
how does this happen? can our cars do this? |

Unused fuel dumped into the exhaust probably from running rich. It's much easier to get a backfire or an "afterburn" from a turbo car then anything else. The only reason your car would do that would be from it not being tuned right (running rich) I know it's cool but trust me not seeing flames from your pipes is a good thing lol. I have seen catless mustangs with the MSD launch control shoot flames at night while bouncing off the 2 step but that's just because the limiter is an ignition cut and a lot of fuel is being dumped. Once again it's only enough to see at night so sorry to dissapoint but you will never get a good pop or flame out of your car.

wow that is kinda disappointing
and he has that exactly a turbo, straight pipes no cats, and a tune, but he has no o2 sensor so maybe thats why its running rich but man do i love driving behind him and watching that thing pop and spark flames |

The newer V8 Ferrari's will also pop flames on high rev shifts.

Actually sir's your wrong our cars can shoot flames
get a flamethrower kit I know they make them for FI cars used to have one on my carbed motor there a blast! but dangerous on the Fi more so all it does is dump extra fuel to spark a flame and bingo

the reason evo's and turbo cars shoot flames is because their blowoff valve is venting into the atmoshphere and is after the maf sensor. when they let off the gas the extra air is let out post maf and causes the engine to go rich and therefore causes a backfire. my friend's srt-4 does this too. i've never heard my car backfire once and it probably never will. my bypass valves are vented to the atmosphere but they are pre maf so when they open its not throwing off the a/f count. i'm sure theres a few supercharged guys here running blowoff valves or bypasses vented to the atmosphere that have draw through maf's and i would be willing to bet their cars backfire when they slow down with compression
