vortech questions (Fuel pump, power pipe and others)
i am about to pick up a v1 headunit from a guy and then will be getting everything else within a month I hope. some concerns on other things to buy are:
Boost gauge: Do I need to run one? I figure I will sicne I will have to tune it myself using sniper and some help from a dealer I know. What's just a easy and cheap boost gauge that I can run in a pod on the steering wheel colum deal? Fuel Pump: Shooting for 400h with my mods. I already have 42# injectors and a lightning 90mm MAF. Which pump should I run? GT super car or Focus SVT? My biggest thing on this one is ease of install. They seem to cost similar so what will be easiest to install and still be able to support my mods? Power Pipe: Using the 90mm LMAF in a draw through configuration would it benefit me at all to get a power pipe? Or should I buy the normal intake tube that vortech makes? Feel free to go into some detail on this one ![]() Punching a hole in the oil pan: Oh boy, this is my most nervous part of the install guys! I dread doing this. Is there a very good guide on doing this part of the job somewhere? Is there no alternative to doing this? Please for sure help me out on this. Pulley! What size pulley should I run to get me close to 400hp? I have no idea what size I need. I will be doing meth injection or intercooler about a year down the road when I get back to the lower 48 and actually have it dyno tuned. Thanks for helping guys and please check back as I am sure I will have more questions!

2. focus is easier to install but gt40 will give more performance 3. power pipe, the one from mph (if they still have them?, been over a year since I looked) is the same price as the cheap ass vortech intake and performs better 4. the instructions from vortech, buy the punch from superchargersonlinc.om for 23 bucks. mark the spot as the vortech instructions say and slam that mofo in there, pack your tap with grease, thread it a bit, back it out, clean the grease, pack more grease, and repeat until its fully tapped, clean the hole with lacquer thinner, clean your fitting with lacquer thinner apply black rtv to both threads and thread the fitting in then apply a fair amount of black rtv around the outside of the fitting. 5. no clue for non intercooled. Awesome reply! do you think the focus pump would work with my mods or am I going to be pushing it to badly? Seems alot of people are using them that's why I ask.

Its hit and miss but thats just my opinion. Some people have had luck with the focus pump, others have had issues.

Awesome. I sent MPH a email asking what else I needed for the pipe they offer. I am guessing I will need a filter as well as a MAF bracket. Any other opinions are still welcome!

How does my list look?
Mounting backets and belts: $289 Discharge Assembly: $199 Inlet Assembly: $215 Oil Feed Lines: $22 Oil Drain Lines: $23 Fuel Pump: 3S4Z-9H307-BC between $80 and $170 bucks Pulley: if not included $78 Boost Gauge: $79.99 Gauge pod: $35 Total is 942.00 but I may not have to buy the $78 pulley. Not sure what's on the blower yet. The gauge and gauge pod are optional but I really want to do them now.

3.60 is the standard pulley with a blower kit from Vortech. If you plan on using an aftercooler or A/A intercooler like paxton's then you will want the 3.33 pulley. The 3.33 works best with the power pipe. I have AFM's power pipe and a stock 3.60 pulley right now and it didn't pick up any more boost or power. Like I said it works best with the 3.33 pulley, but you'll want an intercooler or aftercooler. I'm waiting on mine to get installed hopefully very soon.

When you tap the pan just tap it enough to get the fitting started. About half the tap.

Good advice guys. What spark plugs should I run? I prefer NGK. Just don't know what number I need and what gap.

im sorry guys....but putting a hole and tapping the oil pan...there is NO WAY you can keep ALL metal shavings out of the oil pan. i really want to look up the punch from superchargersonline.
i work with a bunch of machinists. i have asked them the same question, " How can i put a hole in my oil pan, tap it, AND keep all metal shavings out of the pan? Without pulling the pan completely off the car, and cleaning the shavings out." i personally wouldnt feel comfortable doing this with the pan still on the motor. To me, its not 100% that you could keep shavings out of the pan. Please correct me if im totally wrong. cause i have also thought about getting a supercharger, and have leaned toward the v3 series because it is a self contained unit. no need for oil lines |

Thanks jivepepper
xxbeavis: I will be completely changing my oil before running the car once I get the oil pan tapped. Tons of people have done it with no issues it seems. Still makes me nervous. If I screw it up it isn't an easy fix!

Use a strong magnet to pull all the shavings up from inside the oil pan to the hole. I had a bunch of metal in the pan until I used the magnet to get it out. So you don't have a tune and you want to 400hp without an intercooler?

Yeah I wasn't real clear. Until I can hit a dyno I will have someone helping me tune the car with sniper, a wideband and a boost gauge. I am not looking to really make 400hp till I get back to the lower 48. I am almost positive I am going to go ahead and do a methanol kit for now and want to be around 369 to 370 to the wheels. I know I can do a FMIC for not much more but shipping to alaska would kill me on that thing lol.

The oil pan tap wasnt nearly as bad as I thought. I was very nervous myself. I tapped the pan, then drained my oil. Ran a quart of oil through the new hole. Bought a magnetic pen from autozone, and kept looking for metal shavings for a good 15 minutes.
Are you going to run an air to air intercooler? Also check out the link in my signature...that may help u some.

I've punch and tapped two oil pans now and it's really not as bad as you think. Load up the tap with a lot of grease and that will get the majority of the shavings and then get a magnet pen as stated above and it will be fine.
