is it worth it?
To start this off i want 4.10 gears (sorry that i post so much about gears) I live in a big city and other than the freeways we have cruddy roads. I of course want to modify my car and work on it and so on but i talked to my gf's bro today and he told me that getting 4.10s might be inefficient and not be fun to use.
i do a fair amount of freeway driving and like to safely speed up not to mention show off (dont we all) so the question is what do you guys think about me getting 4.10's and can anyone tell me the pros and cons of having them in the city and wether or not i should get them?

Yes they are worth it. Dont listen to your girls brother. I have had 3.73s and 4.10s and theres not really pros or cons about either. You will be much happier with the 4.10s

When you first put them in your gas milage will suffer a little because you will always want to get on it. But after you learn to drive the car normal you will be fine. There will only be about 1-2 MPG difference between 3.73s and 4.10s

Go for it! If you want to try hard to drive on the hilly city streets try my car. Its either me fishtailing like crazy, or clutch suffering lol. Even with the ebrake trick.

Just gears is totally fine for a DD. My problem is kb, stiff clutch, and gears for driving not the gears. If you do a lot of 70+ driving i would say 3:73 personally just so your not at 3k or near 3k rpm all the time. But if you rarely get to 70s (im talking cruising not playing) go 4:10!
I might have just made this harder to understand so don't mind me....

Well when my tranny was fried i was on the freeway with only 4th! Heheh was like 3.2k rpm at 60.
And 2.8 isn't bad. My car's happy spot is 2.3-2.5 or so for cruising.

Definitely. Much faster acceleration. Not horsepower but gear. The difference for example is this. What do you feel like you have more power in, 3rd or 2nd? Or more noticeable 4th and 3rd. Makes the effective gear ratio steeper (lower or whatever you want to call it). So it changes all the gears. And makes 4th feel like it is 3rd. Not that dramatic but you get the picture. Makes all the gearing lower.

Yeah the gears will make a huge difference, I'm sure you will be happy with them. I went with 3.73's because I do A LOT of short across town (2 square miles) city driving. I figured with all the school zones and traffic 4.10's would piss me off but that's just me being cautious, everyone else seems to say they are no problem. One thing I can tell you is city driving is much easier when you can cruise in 4th at 35-40 in a safe rpm and be in 5th around 45. I used to hate cruising at 35 cause I would be high in 3rd and 50 would be high in 4th so I'm lovin that on top of the added accel. If you are saying you do a bit of highway driving go with the 4.10's! Like I said I'm mostly city and I could honestly say 4.10's wouldn't be bad at all maybe I'll try them in the future..

If you are making a N/A monster and plan on getting a set of DRs, and upgrade your suspension etc, get 4:10s. Otherwise I would go for 3.73. Don't listen to the "Don't fear the gear, 4:10s or nothing" people. Sometimes 4:10s will give you worse results than a 3.73 gear would. I know many people that had 3.73s, and got 4.10s and ran the 1/4 slower. That had a harder time hooking up. 4:10s aren't very streetable either. Sure, many people on the road use them, but 3.73s are better. Just so you know I am not just saying this because it's what I have, I have stock gears. Will be getting a gear swap soon. Looked into this extensively in this forum and many others. I suggest you make up your own mind. To me 3.73 are the best of both worlds. Plus, I'll be adding boost soon.
