still breaking up

hey guys i got a 2001 mustang gt and my car was breaking up so i was told to replace the fuel filter. its only breaking up in the high rpms. and when im punching it. i have no clue what it is. could it be plugs and wires? the only thing i can think of was that i was close to empty and on a hill and that the gas was flowing to one side of the tank and making it seem like there was no gas in it. its done it once on the highway before but i cant remember if i was on E or not. im lost. any help would be great, thanks

No plug wires? At all?

I know you have coil packs, but I was under the impression there were still wires.

Its most likely your wires or coil packs. Mine used to do the same thing. Only under load at higher RPM's right? If you rev it while you aren't moving, it doesn't do it? That is the electrical system.

If the car was low on gas then the car might be surging just b/c there is no gas and 99-04 GTs do not have sumped tanks so the fuel sloshes around. Try filling the car with gas and then try to replicate the problem again. If you are still having a problem then I would do plugs, which are cheap, and also a fuel filter, which is also cheap. When doing the fuel filter make sure you buy the fuel line disconnect tool, you have to have it in order to remove the filter. Also check to make sure you don't have any water around the coil boots.
