Auto Transmission


I looked and could not find anything so if someone else finds a thread that has to do with my issue please post it.

I know that 2000 gt's have a T-45 tranny but what about automatics i know its different just not which one also there are so many products out there i dont know which to choose for instance what brand of tranny filter should i buy and where is it located when I change it?

what kind of kit am i looking for as far as replacing gaskets?

and would lucas tranny fluid additive be a good idea

I was also told to turn the engine how is that done once i take the transmission pan off so that i can get to the bolt to take the fluid out of the torque box?

thx for the help sorry if iam being annoying im just a little worried that the fluid has never been changed because of the sounds that its making.

You have a 4r70w not a t45. Get an oem or purolator (sp?) filter. The pan gasket is reusable. I wouldnt go sticking anything other than mercon v in there but thats just me. And I was the one that told you about draining the torque converter. Yes. Remove the cover to the access hole, turn the car over by hand and look in the hole with a light until you see a small drain plug.

another quick question should i pour the fluid through the shifter or the designated place in the engine bay?

another question on the transmission fluid change

Ok so I just went to the Ford parts store and purchased 4qts of mercon v (and a filter) because I need 3.3.

So I went to the counter and the guy asked me if I needed 15qts. So my question is do I need to buy more to change the fluid because I thought I only needed roughly 4qts?

P.S. does the engine have to be in neutral to turn it?

Im all for doing it yourself etc but I really think you should just take it somewhere and have it done.

On the other hand if you just drop the pan, change the filter, bolt the pan back up, and refill youre looking at 3-4 qts if I remember right. Ive never just dropped the pan and replaced with xxx amount (keep reading for why). If you drain the torque converter youre gonna need quite a bit more. No exact amount given because you dont know how much was exactly drained and you dont want to be too high or too low with your trans. Best way to do it is add x amount. Check the stick. Add more, check the stick, and repeat the process, while the fluid is hot/warmed up until youre in the correct range.

im also for doing it yourself but i think taking it to a shop would be best this time. Its not something you want to risk not doing right. It shouldnt be 150 bucks.
