is there a diffrence in a crank shaft on an automatic or 5 speed for a 4.6 2000 to 2004

Mach1s had steel cranks on manuals cast on the automatics

For the SOHC 4.6 (GT's) there is no difference.

i remember there being a 6 bolt and an 8 bolt crank

romeos had a 6 bolt, and windsor had an 8 bolt

you can put an cobra crank in an sohc if an 8 bolt flywheel is used

Just found this info:

Romeo built engines have 6 bolts and Windsor built engines have 8 bolts. All Cobra engines have 8 bolts. The 8th character in the VIN is (X) for Windsor engine plant or (W) for Romeo engine plant.

I thought only the DOHC's have 8 bolts, but apparently the Windsor SOHC's do also. Other than 4.6's made from 99-00, they were all 6 bolt Romeo's. Good catch y guy.

fords website says an (x) for windsor, my car has an (x) saying its an windsor but its a romeo

best way to find out is by its valve covers
