Sorry should have clarified I don't really care/know about pre-99 cars so whenever I use blanket words like "any" I usually mean any 99+ part

8.8's from explorers work, and I think they are all 31 spline. You might want to look into something like that too

I dont think you are really understanding what i mean... If you go out and buy a used rear end, you dont know what your getting into and maybe worse than what you have right now. The person selling it may say its perfect but you never know people do lie... I am 99.99% sure that your housing is not messed up at all... I have seen many many people completely shatter their rear ends and even blow holes in the diff covers and the housing was still fine...

Take it to a shop (not a dealership) and have them look at it and fix it. If I had to make an educated guess, I would say that the differential needs rebuilt and that would be it.

And that is exactly why I didn't grab the 2001 with 80k miles on it. Even if it was going to cost me only $250.

The guy said something about it being "grayed" and the "bearings" may have become unsealed from the main rear and spun it. And I would need a new on if that was the case. I have a feeling since he admitted that he wasn't set up for gear work, he just wanted to replace the whole rear.

And being that I wanted new gears anyhow....

There is a guy on LS1tech with a 95 GT making 470+ rwhp N/A on his car right now. It's pretty bad-assed.

Plus, if the complete rear was messed, it shouldn't be drivable right?

Should be, you'll need different axles of course though

Sorry man, nothing personal lol Don't let it hurt your feelings too much. The not liking comment was more for the Fox bodies. I don't like them at all. The 94-98 cars are fine, but I don't have one so I don't really know about them and there's not a lot of reason for me to learn. I just know what I pick up here and there. For now I just want to get to know the New Edges and modular motors inside-out and backwards.

If it makes you feel any better, I like your car's looks

I bought a used Explorer differential for $75. It needed a clutch pack so that increased the cost to about $175.

I have a perfectly good stock 28 spline differential and axles with ring and pinion gear sitting in my garage. Those and a $150-175 bearing kit would completely rebuild your rearend. I can't imagine that your housing is bad. The cover might be bad and what's that cost $40-50? I bought one for my truck but I can't remember how much it cost.

To be honest though, if you've got to rebuild it... upgrade.

Like I said before, I don't have a ton of money to spend in a "better" rear. I might get back to you with that rear.

My only problems with buying a used one is, I have no clue how much it's been abused. The other is, shipping.

I'll call freddy for you tomorrow and tell him to hook you up. He will also look at it for no charge as well. If the entire housing does have to be replaced, let Freddy get the parts for you. He can get them cheaper and faster than you can. I'll message you on here or on FB after I talk to him tomorrow morning.

Thanks again.

So got the car back today. It was a 3 or 4 bearing sets that were SHOT. Only cost me about 350 to get it fixed. I want to thank slikirish again for the hookup.

BTW I was told by said mechanic there that putting synthetic in the rear can wear out said bearings quicker than non-synthetic. Any truth to this?

That's actually a quick turn around for Freddie. Too bad you didn't have some gears to have him throw in their at the same time.

I have heard the same about using non-synthetic from multiple places.

BTW, had to have my windshield replaced and am now in search of a hookup for a new inspection sticker. Freddie's buddy that did inspections closed up shop.

Ouch!

I was asking around about that BTW. Do you know the place between Vienna and Boaz next to the BP? gas station run by a guy named Gary? Older guy? My dad just got one of his older cars inspected, and it had a exhaust leak really bad, and it still passed. The guy didn't even check it.

I doubt he checks your mid-pipe.. you can always check.

This is one of the main reasons I'm probably going to go catted.

That makes sense I wish I knew him when I had the 10% tint. But then again, I don't wanna give the police a reason to pull me over.

BTW how much did you pay for that Dashscan?
