best window tint for Illinois Law

Believe me, I've read through 90% of the window tint threads on this forum. I want some more recent input though regarding this issue.

Law states 35% all around, or any darkness in back and no tint up front.

I really don't like the tint level of the 35% darkness however. It's not dark enough for my taste. You can see right through, and it's pretty pointless unless it's night time.

Does anyone in Illinois have any issues with darker tint and what the local or state cops say about it. Are they a major nag on you to take it off? I see SOOOO many dark window tinted vehicles where I live, and I almost wonder how they can all have that dark of tint if the law states only 35%.

Also, how likely would I get in trouble if I put 15% on rear and 35% sides. Normally if I have darker than 35% in the rear, I can't have any tint up front, but I don't think it would be that much of an issue with cops, but then again, I have no idea how strict they may be.

Anyways, I had an appointment to get tints on my car today, but I turned it down because I didn't want to go with 35% all around, nor did I want 20% due to having to pay fines/tickets. So I'm trying to figure out what I should do. Any suggestions or anything I should be aware of, please let me know, thanks.

welcome to the sight. you can have 5% all round if you want, just not on the driver/passenger front windows. The front by law has to be 35%. Its really just a gamble, no matter the state. I have had 15% all around for years and never got in trouble, probably cuz I only drive with the windows down. Also if your car is not all black inside, you can be seen easier by the 5.0, which is what they are supposed to pull you over for.

Also dont go havzies on the tent. equal number all round, you will not regret it.

Illinois law is that tint must allow more than 35% all the way around the car. Don't believe me, go look up their laws. 5% in the back is illegal.

How much you get in trouble w/ the law really depends on your location. I had my windows at 15% (legal is 30% in Indiana) and have never been hastled. Cops don't really care about tint where I live.

I'd do 35% all around and not have to worry about it

depending on the color of the car i believe tint can look bad or good. i probably should have kept my tint on or redone it because my car is dark (dark forest green) but i didnt want to deal with the law at all so i tore it off. honestly if you fear getting in trouble from the police just follow what the law says or even go a little on the conservative side so they never have a reason to hassle you.

I asked him if hes ever pulled anyone over for it and he said only once and thats because the moron had his windshield tinted at 10%. guess what car it was............... A CIVIC ahhahahahaa

If you can still see through the window some you wont get hassled too bad. My windows on my DD are almost limo tint black and its usually fine. If your in a small town where the cops have alot of time on their hands they may bust ur balls about it more.

The cops where I live have nothing else to do but drive around and bust people for tint, loud exhaust, and seatbelts. Town right next to us actually has crime so they need cops, you could probably do a burnout right in front of them and they wouldn't care because they have better shit to deal with.

Most of the time it's just going to depend on the cop for any petty thing like tint, exhaust, loud music, squealing tires, etc. There are some cool ones that let you get by, some straightedge ones that go by the book, and some assholes that they they are king dick and will do whatever they can to bust you for something
