The difference in air flow between an aftermarket and stock CAI is so minimal it's not worth it if you're doing it for performance. The critical factor is the high flow filter that most of these aftermarkets use. Just buy a K & N filter, take off the air silencer and call it a day!
BTW it doesn't matter if it's plastic or metal. The air passes through so fast it doesn't really have time to warm up enough to make a difference. John

i'd just get a K&N myself instead and call it a day. CAI's aren't worth that much HP wise but they look better than the stock inlet.

i made my own induction. i used a die grinder to cut the flanges off on the stock maf so I could use a conical filter on the end of it so it could be put in the fenderwell with no curves in front of it. then bought the pvc and rubber connectors from home depot.
