Possible Rod Bearing... Help

Watch the videos below for the sound...

Scenario - I'm getting a ticking / knocking noise from cylinder 8. I originally lost a lot of power, which I thought was due to the tick. I ran the codes and had a misfire in cylinder 4 and 7.

So I replaced all of the plugs and coils. Runs great now. However the tick is still there. Even when I pull the connection for cylinder 8, the tick / knock remains.

I thought if it were a rod bearing the tick / knock would stop when pulling the electrical connector on top of the coil.

The plug has not blown out either. I'm stuck. Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Tick starts at 1:03

Ignore the loud power steering... listen for the tick

Your about to throw a rod. I had the same thing happen on my car. It started as a low tick and over the course of about 3 weeks got louder till it just let go on my way home from work, worst sound ever! I guess it was a good since I got to replace it with a nice low milelage PI motor, its fun to drive now and I cant stop modding it.

I would say the is idle is affected as well as power issues then I'd look toward a lash adjuster, as this is a common part to fail on the 4.6L. Ford had issued a fix for the famous tick, by putting shims under the adjusters. Run a compression test on the cylinders to make sure. If the rods are in need of freshing then I would say get a full refresh as bearing material has circulated threw the engine.

A rod bearing has spun, and the bottom end needs to come apart and have new bearings and such replaced.

Continuing to run the motor in this condition could result in seizure of the spun bearing, which could cause a connecting rod to snap in half and thus cause catastrophic damage to the engine block.
