The engine origin doesn't really apply.. Basically I would say if you have over 100k then It should be inspected and or replaced. Its a toss up, I'm the second owner of my mustang and had to replace it when I got it at 50k. The car owner loved to free rev the engine upon startup. This leads to premature failure as the chains are adjusted by oil fed adjusters. So it is really how you drive it. If you don't change oil like you should then it should be inspected, the guides tend to fail before the chains. I hope this helps you.

The timing chain replacement isn't even in our recommended maintenance guide. I probably wouldn't change mine unless there were something wrong with it.

i had 80K on my old 2v and when i tore it down the chains/tensioners/guides were completely fine. i wouldnt really worry about them to be honest. not unless they start getting loud or something.

I can see here that no one reads the entire post. I said it depends on use of the car. PM's is something that needs to be done, period. May be you had 80k on your odometer, but did you drive the entire 80? Did you rev the engine everytime you started it? The recommendation I gave was general. Having 15+ years wrenching on cars, you tend to see more than whats in your driveway. I have the same engine and at 50k had to replace timing chains from repeated abuse. The old if it ain't broke don't fix it program is half the reason there are plenty of grenaded engines in the yard. There's nothing wrong with being sure.

Reading through the maintenance guide also doesn't mention the fact that you should have your brake fluid flushed either. But that is one of the causes to some brake failures.
