Stock Clutch Question

Hey everyone,

Just recently bought a 2001 mustang gt and had a question/issue about the stock clutch.
I've owned 3 different VWs and 1 BMW before buying this Mustang all of them were Manual. My issue is that the clutch pedal is way too hard, it feels like I'm pressing the brakes and not the clutch.
After my first day driving it to work and having to hit rush traffic, I can honestly say that my left leg is Sore from that hard clutch pedal.

Am I just used to soft European car clutch pedals, and that hard clutch pedal is something normal with the V8s, or could it possibly be some Issue.

Also the clutch seems to engage very early, I barely pull my foot back from fully pressing it and it already engages it.

Any suggestions would be great. thanks

get a tougher leg, the reason ist stiffer is because it is cable operated and not hydraulic like your other ones.

well its a cable and your vw and bmw were prob hydraulic so that's part of it. Only other option is go with a new quadrant and adjuster.

alright great, thanks a lot. I was kinda worried that something was wrong.
I'm sure I'll get used to it, it was just such a big difference.

no thats about normal. Some aftermarket clutches do have a softer pedal. it will be a little softer than stock but nothing like a hydraulic clutch

Yep..your questions been answered.

the clutch in my camaro is hydraulic and it's very soft, the clutch in the Mustang is mechanical and is firmer...I prefer the mechanical clutches.

+1.

the stock clutches in these cars can be a good leg work out. look around on what people's feedback is on different aftermarket clutches because i hear some (i think maybe it was centerforce ?) have lower pedal effort than stock. i can tell you now to stay away from SPEC because i have a SPEC stage 2 and the pedal is MUCH harder than stock but i love that clutch so far.

unless it was heavily modified, that was way to much clutch. I have a centerforce DF and love it. little softer than stock with a regular quadrant, but i have a quick release quadrant so now its a little stiffer than stock

haha awesome. i always like the dumb ricer kids in my town that have like a fart can and an intake and then throw a stage 3 clutch in there just because their cars are frickin' sweet like that.
