Please Dont Do This....

well, I thought I would share with you guys my misfortune....

How much gain is expected from a set of Steeda pulleys? maybe 4-5 RWHP?

well, this has been THE MOST EXPENSIVE MOD, I've ever done, see I got all set to do the install. Read and re-read the instructions, and even saw the video on AMERICAN MUSCLE on how to do it. Anyway I was able to get the old Dampner/Pulley off and was in the process of re-installing the new one...I was using the "starter Bolt" provided by Steeda, and I over tigtened it....and it broke off in my crankshaft!! I immediately felt sick, I mean, I knew what had just done, and I couldnt believe I was STUPID enough to do it!

I amaze myself sometimes...anyway, It was towed to FORD where They tried unsuccessfully to extract it. Now it looks like im looking at a total engine breakdown to replace the crank!!! estimated cost for parts and labor: $4700!!!!

I've learned my lesson...If I have any doubt about my abilities to do a job on my car now, I will now pay for someone else to do it!!!!

wow dude that sucks!! and i would take ur car to some other shops and see what they can do for you price wise. because FORD usually wants to charge you an arm and a leg for stuff.

Holy shit!!! That is expensive as shit. You should take it to a performance shop and look at building it forged.

4700 to replace the crank? Looks like it is time to buy a brand new forged block for 3k And can increase compression if you are using juice/staying na.

Or dropping a 3v in there.

4.7k is too much money in a motor that has miles on it, and isn't even forged. Just to replace the crank. Imo

Sorry to hear about your fuck up man :/

We've all pulled a major boner. Some guys pull major boners all the time. Isn't that right, MP.

I am with those other members up there though^

4700 could get you set up with an entire brand new short block.

Yea i would have avoided them at ALL COSTS. Cause dealers love to rip you off. They normally charge about $100 an hour for labor

Shit dude, normal shops charge that around here just think of the dealerships in WA! And it is mostly the markup, slow working, sitting around and rounding up the time that kills ya. Or they quote you for a standardized time of the average mechanic, and then charge you for that when really it took them 2 hours less.

At least that is my experience, i know a few people worked for dealerships so i don't know if that is 100% true.

yeah dude, full forged shortblocks can be had for just over $2,000, fully assembled. buy one of those and have a performance shop install it for you. it will still end up being cheaper than having ford just replace the crank with a stocker.
