Stripped my thread
Last week my spark plug had backed out on me and i was lucky that there was no damage. I was able to put the plug back down. Than again yesterday it happened same plug. I pulled the plug and it was bad the little prong was pressed all the down and the rubber boot had split open. The threads on the plug looked good. I get one new spark plug and a new boot. I have done this job a hand full of times. Every oil change i pull the plugs and run them down. Well i was pissed about this happening, i put lock tight all over the new plug dropped it in into the head and started to tighten it up.
Im pretty sure i cross threaded it. It tighten up really quick didnt feel right. But i was an idoit and just kept going really slow and than it just broke free. I know i striped the treads in the head. It is the plug on the passenger side right by the throttle body. It looks stripped the plug threads still look ok. How can i fix this. Can a thread chaser work or do i need to helicoil it?

The car is in a parking lot and im getting frustrated with all of this. I called a good Mustang shop here and its 250+tow. I just might get the car to my house and park it for awhile. This was just at the worst time possible.
That kit looks good but ya little expensive. I bet that is what the shop uses that i called.

I had one blow out and took al the threads with it. went to autozone here and got a kit from Helicoil called Save a thread. worked great for me. IT comes with a special tap that cuts out the threads for the helicoil insert with out you having to drill anything. I did it witht he head still on and no issues. just used a lot of grease on the taps flutes, cut half a turn, backed out cleaned tap, re-greased... repeat untill done. then used a shopvac with a few feet of fuel lie taped into the hose to get into the cylinder just incase anything had fallen in (just a few smallish chips, but I didnt want to fubar anything) put some permatex on the insert and screwed it in. there is a second tool that you use as a punch to flare the top edge of the insert out so It graps the walls. 2 years later it is still runing great. Kit cost 25 bucks if I remember.
granted, the timesert is better, but hey, we cant all have a ton of money for that. now If I ever get different heads then I would look into that.

Plus with the timesert there's a lot more steps. I packed it with grease and would only clean the fluts when they were full.

i also used the save a thread, and it has worked for 2 weeks. pretty easy to do. like said, just use tons of grease and a vacuum.

I'll strip your thread
![]() Seriously though, jive is right. Time sert is a better kit. I have the kit in my garage. Paid like 400 bucks for using it once. If you lived closer you could some use it for some beer. You'll need a vacuum with some straws or something taped to the end of it, and just be careful!
